Monger - Sex Tourism In Argentina Documentary Premiere

I sugest to read the UN paper regarding trafficking of dominican women for sexual exploitation in Argentina.
I have represented many prostitutes at Federal Court and most of them are on that business because a) they are victims of trafficking or b ) they are single mothers who are looking to buy a house or to save money because they can make 4/5 times more money than in a regular work.

Beside this clarification, as I explained before, pimps are illegal and what I find hilarious is that the main character of th films confesses openly to pimp so, sooner or later he is going to go a Court with his hand behind.

As a someone who used to have a stake in a brothel and knows the industry pretty well, I can tell you that the UN reports are completely false. Mostly as a result of unemployed NGO workers inflating numbers and flat out lying. The percentage of women forced is virtually nil.

The purity / vice argument is stronger.

But women need all the help they can these days so I say let them at it!

Tonight at Centro Cultural Matienzo there will be a screening of Monger and then a debate with the Director.
I will be attending, at last! Is anybody else interested? The location is very convenient, near Palermo Soho.

This is interesting from Pagina 12. Worth a look if only for the main photo.

Why so interesting? Do we know someone in the main photo?

I would argue that there are many ways of "forcing" women into prostitution. Many don't involve physical force or overt coercion but it still doesn't mean a woman has chosen that way of life totally voluntarily and in full understanding of what it means. And I'd be hard pressed to believe that NGOs are just rampantly lying and making up numbers.

The blondish man in the picture, (white short sleeved shirt, to the back left), is our good friend from the coffee chats. He had this long time fight with International Guy over a dollar loan...!

Is this Big Joe? ... Bruce ... The best of BAExpats of all times.
His presence and his unequalled posts and polls are dearly missed.

BAExpats never been the same ever since his absence !!!!!!

Soldiers, garbage collectors, coal miners, wood loggers, fishing boat workers, construction workers. The recruitment on those predominately male, HIGHLY dangerous, quite degrading and often deadly professions usually don't involve physical force or overt coercion. I guess we can say that it still doesn't mean a man has chosen that way of life totally voluntarily and in full understanding of what it means.

Prostitutes twerks on their colleagues coffin as a tribute to her on her funeral

Shocking.

Well given you admittedly have vested interest in that being true, we can agree that your assertion that NGOs are lying would be beneficial for you. However you've offered no proof for your assertion and a quick search doesn't come up with any kind of smoking gun proving that. I am glad that in the ones you know/are involved in, they willingly chose the profession.

However, it's blind to say that coercion doesn't exist. Sex trafficking is a real issue. I also think that there are lots of ways women are forced into the trade that don't actually involve physical force. I however certainly agree that other women usually choose to do it willingly (although I might posit that is more common at the higher price points of escorts, etc but that's just a theory).

Anyway, it's an interesting premise for a movie - congrats again to the parties involved in getting the movie made!

I'm not sure what is degrading about any of the positions you mentioned? Dangerous yes. Also generally regulated in terms of safety requirements unlike the sex trade in most of the world. Also not professions where human beings are trafficked. When's the last time you heard of someone kidnapped and forced into construction work? Also all those listed are legal and socially acceptable unlike the sex trade in most of the world. Also generally provide things like salaries, insurances, etc.

Really, tell me you're not so obtuse as to compare any of those professionsto the sex trade.

I'm not anti sex-trade. I certainly wish there were a lot more protection available for those that worked in it.
