Mugged On Our Own Doorstep

My mother in law got a phone call from a friendly portero near where she lives to say he'd found her documents, DNI etc which is going to save a lot of hassle for her, so that's something.
The rest is gone including house keys, cards etc which have been taken care of in the usual manner.
The so called guard is nothing more than a 'vago' who leeches off the neighbours. I'll deal with him in the fulness of time.
What really makes us angry is the fact that Adri had just come out of hospital on thursday after an operation and her mum came over with some clothes she had repaired and to help her out around the house while she was recuperating.
And no, I didn't call the police as I still have memories of calling them when held up at gunpoint in the shop, twice. Waste of time.

When I was telling my Argentine friend about the burglary he was telling me what to do if ever I am home and someone is outside (I LOVE my Argentine friends who try to educate me--and some do). He said to say Quen es (don't pick on my spelling now) and if they don't answer, tell them I'm calling the police, but don't call them because a lot of times they are complicit! So I don't know what to think. He said his neighbor was burglarized and went to the police station to report and the lieutenant (or whatever, I don't remember) was wearing his Rollex wristwatch. How did he know for sure it was h is?

My place was broken into and I was in Montevideo. I came back as soon as they called and didn't get here till next morning. The police had taped the door shut and sat in a chair outside all night. Sounds like they did a pretty good job of responding.

Sorry to hear about your mum being robbed. As you know it my hood as well. Everyone be careful.

I am still confused since they changed the emergency number from IXII.............

I'd better clarify that the portero found the docs in the street and were obviously discarded by the ass****** responsible.

very sorry to hear about both the robberies..the old lady and the bank.

no words to express the grief, especially about the old lady being mugged. whenever i hear about any old lady, it reminds me of my mother and makes me feel very emotional.

May the force be with her.

Sorry to hear everyone's stories. I hope the victims are all ok and get their replaceable replaced.

My roommate/best friend and I just moved in to our new place in Palermo a week ago. Last night he was feeling sick so he left class early, drove home and parked infront of our apartment. This morning when we woke up he looked off our balcony and noticed something strange about his vehicle.

He went down, I stayed on the balcony and watched him pull out the shattered remains of his driver's side window. The only thing stolen was a 2 year old iPod Shuffle likely worth $25.00. He went to get the window replaced and it came to $650.00 ARS and there were 5-6 others ahead of him with the same issue.

We live in Palermo, right on Cordoba and have 2 bus stops infront of our building. This is Argentina.

Stay safe all.

It's an issue, of course it is.
And I'm as guilty as anybody for not taking other people's stories seriously.
We're all human.
It won't happen to me etc etc.
Adri has had this aura since I arrived.
Call it fear or simply call it respect for the jungle.
Looks like the jungle wins.

Ugh that is 2 blocks from here. Do you know if ti was Banco Nacion or HSBC? Banco Nacion´s atm always looks kinda sketchy to me at night. Still it is on a main avenue, it is really f***d up!

it was HSBC,,,,!

I'm sorry to hear this happened to an older woman and at the same time glad that nothing else happened as far as injuries or home invasion.
These are the things that make you think about carrying a boobie trap purse with some kind of dye like they use in the banks(or a hand granade)
As Ceviche said may the force be with you, except i 'd like to add may the air force or some kind of force that can pick them off from the air be with you :)
