Need US phone number

What is so open about them, besides the $19 per month price?
you sign up, you get a us number, no sim card involved. can send and receive calls and texts. unlimited calls and texts as far as i know, i used to be on the phone to the US all day and they never charged me anything extra.

But you need their Tello simcard in the US first.

If your phone supports eSim, you can get a Tello Sim wherever you are. Activates abroad. They have the cheapest a $5 a month plan and it supports wifi calling so you can receive and make phone calls as if in the US (no roaming fees) while connected to the wifi, as well as SMS services.

Of course, there are the free services like Google Voice mentioned above but sometimes they are not supported for banks or apps verification messages, as they are VOIP phone numbers.

I brought my US phone line with Vonage and it was quite useful

Being a certified, card-carrying CyberMoron, here goes Moronic question number #####:
If I get Vonage, do calls go to my cell or to the land line?

I need to receive US calls in my cell phone here. Should be a normal local call for the caller.

Just rec'd the note that Skype will be shut down soon and need an alternate
Ideal
Port my skype US number to new service
Able to call 1-800 numbers in US
Receive text msg from US including bank and login authentication

Anyone in the same boat or have good advice?
@Ceviche says Magic Jack - assume this is the app solution?

I replied to similar question yesterday in another thread. GV has mixed results receiving SMS from banks who sometimes do not allow, based on what people report here. Everything else works fine after porting from Skype to GV

I have AT&T unlimited through my US phone and use it for calling, texts, high-speed data, and mobile hotspot. It covers nearly all of Latin America. They changed the fine print to mention international use shouldn't exceed domestic, but I never had a problem.
