Hi All,
Being a moley person, I used to get my moles check for cancerous growths every year in the States. It has been more than 18 months since my last mole check and I'd like to see someone here... some questions:

Has anyone reading this ever had a mole check in BA?
Do you have a good dermatologist to recommend? English-speaking preferred?
Is it expensive? (I have no local coverage only travel insurance)

Offices in Nuñez/Belgrano/Palermo areas preferred... let me know if you have any information! Thanks :D

Travel Insurance will not cover a routine check-up. The dermatology department of the Hospital Aleman should be able to do it. A visit with a specialist without a medical plan may run $500 pesos.?

I second the recommendation for the clínica at Hospital Áleman. I haven't been there for dermatology, but I've been to the clinic several times for various ailments over the years and they are efficient, thorough, and the service is excellent.

Most of the doctors speak English, but if they don't they will find someone to translate for you. Two years ago, one of the general docs from the clinic referred me to a gastroenterologist. The GP actually showed up to that appointment (two days later) because he knew the gastro didn't speak English and he wanted to make sure I understood everything the gastro had to say. Amazing service. Doubtful that would ever happen in the U.S.

I've never had a consultation with any doctor cost more than $250 pesos, even a specialist. They don't seem to charge a higher price for a specialist vs. general practitioner. My boyfriend and I both went in October, I saw a GP, he saw an opthamologist, and both our bills came to $242.50 pesos for the consultation. If they do any biopsies or labs, that will be extra. When I went two years ago, the bills for the GP and the gastro were the same also. Of course, the consult fees were only $150 two years ago. Inflation? What inflation. :p

Thanks for your update on the Hospital Aleman consultation fees. My fee indication was based on my visit to Swiss Medical 6 months ago. I didn't use their services.

Wow! Swiss Medical is that much more expensive? I wonder what the private doctor's offices charge. I am guessing lower, but who knows.
