Hey there,

My name is Xavier. I was born in Spain and raised in San Francisco, and I've been a digital nomad for the last 13 years with my trusty goldador, Buddy, in tow.

I have decided it's time to find a new, more permanent tribe, and finally build some roots again. This time in Buenos Aires: my favorite city in the whole, wide world.

I crave the deeper connections we make when we're not constantly uprooting to explore. And the best way I have discovered to get healthy, light-hearted connection, is through a regular No Limit Hold 'Em poker game. It's more about communing, catching up, and a little harmless excitement and sh*t talking, than high stakes gambling.

I'm still apartment hunting in the Belgrano neighborhood, and neighboring areas, and welcome leads. So for now, hosting games is out of the question for me. But I figured there might be others who might like to play on a semi-regular basis who can. No experience necessary, poker is easy and fun to learn. About every two weeks is just the right cadence for me, but I'm open.

I'm also looking for folks who might want to connect for:

• regular asados (or paella),
• long dog walks and hiking,
• dog-friendly weekends away,
• gluten-free dining (it's rough here),

and last but not least, a gym buddy. I lift 4x a week around 1pm, and am still on the hunt for a good gym. The decent ones seem way too crowded.

I'm delighted to have been recommended this forum and hope to connect with those of you who like to commune beyond the interwebs.

Hasta pronto, maybe?
X.

Hey, I might be up for something like this. I've always wanted to jump in on some of the immigrant/expat groups that organize on here, but can never make them with working a 9-5.

Not in the city year round, but could really use something to fill the time when my fiance visits her folks (can only handle so many in-law dinners a month).

Out of city right now, will stay tuned in.

Thanks for your interest. I have a feeling I'm going to need to recruit elsewhere, maybe Meetup or at other expat events. I'll keep you posted.

Welcome to Argentina, EEUU expat living in Mendoza. I found a daily Texas Hold'em poker game (1pm) at a Casino in Mendoza. Most of the players are good, sometimes I am the worst player but generally there might be a couple other more casual players. If there are enough people the Casino will start a second table. More about the poker than socializing but if you were hot to play, I'm sure you could find a similar set up in BsAs.

Thanks for the warm wishes. Yeah -- that is the plan. Low pressure home games as a means of socializing, and casino game on off weeks where I can play a little more seriously. I haven't had a chance to go to the casino yet, as I'm still looking for an apartment. The degree of attempted scamming by both agents and the guarantor companies is just unreal here. At the end of the day, it may make more sense to lock in a long-term Airbnb until I decide where to buy.

I played in the casino back in 2024, they had 1k/2k pesos tables and a 2/5 dollar game, the dollar game started around 8pm most days. The tables close at 5am. There was also an app where you could put yourself on the waiting list before arriving.

Agree. Lot of scamming by agents here especially for short terms rentals

Hey there, buddy! I used to play poker a lot in its boom; nowadays I play for fun maybe 2 or 3 times a month.
Casino Flotante offers these games: NL500 (USD min BI 400 USD) and also in pesos blinds 2.5/5k min BI 250K. It is located in Puerto Madero but I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for since the enviroment is that of a casino and lacks the charm of a homegame.
Last time I went there there were 7 tables running, 6 in pesos and one in USD (Saturday around 7pm).
Cheers!
