New Online Purchasing Laws

Bajo_cero2 and I might not agree on much but we do agree that people should pay their taxes. The national pastime of Argentina is not football nor tango. It is figuring out how to scam the system and not pay if you don't have to. Many of us do it in one way or another and in one degree or another. We bring in items from overseas (for resale or personal use) and get through customs without paying duty because we have a US Passport. We bring in Dollars through cuevas. We do some / all of our work under the table, etc etc.

We can't then throw a hissy fit when the government tries to stop these activities. In my opinion this regulation is another way for the government to check to see if you are paying your taxes but there is another reason as well...

This government is hard-pressed for Dollars. When you pay for that A&F shirt on the internet you are probably paying for it with your Argentine credit card (if you are smart). Why? Because you are "changing" your Pesos for Dollars at less than the blue rate. I think this drops central reserves but I don't remember the exact mechanism. Someone else can chime in. We should not be surprised at more attempts to control capital flight.

Please note - my comments are not an attempt to excuse either 1) Hypocrisy by a government that says you should do one thing and then does just the opposite themselves, 2) another failed attempt at controlling demand-side economics, or 3) the loss of liberties that many of us take for granted or compare to some other country.

I really can't complain about living in Argentina. I like it here. Yes, there are some things that are a pia (like more govt controls) but the quality of life we have here at the price is really hard to beat (IMO).

I have family/friends ties here and was in doubt whether to bring my girl here or go myself to Europe as we both have apts to stay in each place. My mind was made up in the last few months, but the plus is that I'll travel the heck out of Ryan/Wizz Air, and take advantage of some ticketing goa rounds that work better only from Europe/North America/Asia and Brazil.
World here I come :D But I love Argentina mostly, all of its territory, and probably half of its population personal characteristics. Mix Scandinavia with Argentina and then I'll get DNI for naturalizados :p In the meantime, only difference with residency is that you are "able" to vote for crook A or B.

When informed about the new laws on e-commerce. an ex K legislator wrote in her Twitter account.

The Bourgeois don't accept a single restriction to their buying power. Uy Fidel ! it will be tough here for our Socialist Utopia...!!!

Good Luck Pull Plug

Really? ...REALLY?!
I'm outta here...(literally)

I know it will be a short period of time until something blows up, or Oct 2015 comes first, and everything will start to get better (Argentina has too many resources will float again soon) but damn hold on tight.

Knowing Argentina I suspect there is a significant contraband issue. But ok, let's say that it is only to stop capital flight. The government needs Dollars to function. If they don't have Dollars and can't function then life here will get a lot worse for everyone.

No one wants that.

Can anyone tell me that this doesn't apply to used goods, i.e. non electronic and non antique objects. .
I'm talking about used items bought on the internet, and for personal use.

So if a new book costs over 25 bucks, we might have to pay 50% extra.

All of this sucks !!

Nobody knows. The latest resolution says that the exceptions are going to be listed in a future resolution.

But, the afip cannot enact laws, only resolution that is the reglamentation of a law, in this case, the custom's code.

The answer is there.
