New rapid diagnostic test developed by ARG scientists

....The differences between the tests:
The private clinics and laboratories consulted by LA NACION indicated that the value of the antibody tests is between 3,000 and 4,000 pesos. Regarding PCR exams, the cost depends on whether the patient requires it by referral for coverage (about 4,000 pesos) or privately (between 6,000 and 8,000 pesos).

Yes, but BankNote said 600 pesos. That was the question, where that number came from. And, I could be wrong on this, but the Nation article looks to be referring to PCR exams - the ones that have been in use and take days for results, not the NEOKIT-COVID-19. ??

I watched the live interview of the lab who has invented it on TV - Today - around 11 am. They told the cost of 600 pesos very clearly plus even said 8 usd, and that the patent is owned 85% by Argentina and time of test is 1 hour. I have nothing to gain in reporting wrong news here basis Gracielle”s counter news.

Thank you for clarifying. I wasn't doubting you, as I said. Only trying to get like an official source before I quoted to someone else. Good catch seeing the interview. And the test cost is at 'people' price. Good news for all.

All the Spanish language news sites carried this NEOKIT story. However I did not notice it yesterday on Buenos Aires Times news website.
Has anyone seen information on how and to who this new test kit will become available? Individual, pharmacy or Lab? Can it be performed by an individual at home and can an individual read their own results?
Or will it require either walking in or getting an appointment at a Lab or pharmacy? Or...? Inquiring minds want to know.

I posted this article on Sunday, May 17. I think it may partially answer some of your questions.
Coronavirus in Argentina: which are the private clinics and laboratories that perform the Covid-19 tests

....Private clinics were authorized by the National Government to carry out tests of the new coronavirus on patients with symptoms on April 27....

.....specialists advise against those who do not enter the definition of a suspected case being able to take the test because "health resources are very scarce" and that patient " takes away the possibility of another who perhaps does need that resource."
....At a time when there are more places that perform Covid-19 tests , Magonza warned about the risks that those who can pay for them do so compulsively. "If a person does not have real suspicions of having been in contact with a Covid-19 patient, if they did not travel and have no symptoms, it would be a useless expense of resources to do studies of their own free will even if they pay them out of pocket.

Health resources are very scarce and it is very expensive to keep the population healthy. That person takes away the possibility of another who perhaps does need that resource, "he explained.....In this sense, he remarked: "Here comes the importance of State policies in health and that is why it should not be the market alone that decides on health, because if the test were in such demand, its price would increase more."....

Thanks for posting this, and well, yes BUT to Magnoza... certainly the first and continuing priority is to sustain availability for testing on potential/suspected infected persons.
However the reason the new NEOKIT looks to be such a game changer is that beyond rapid testing of the possibly infected, is if there's a rapid test with high accuracy, inexpensive and better still if it works like a pregnancy test which can be done at home, then In that scenario one could (A) know if infected but not showing symptoms, (B) could increase and improve sociability if you and a friend or friends want to get close and socialize. For 600 pesos and a blue test result (test negative with the NEOKIT), join the party. It would go a long way to reduce some of the contemporary miserable angst of staying away from everyone or taking unknown risks and hoping for the best. If it's just a better testing method but restricted then okay, but if it opens a door to a new normal then barbaro!
Also, supply and demand usually works to lower the price, not to increase the price - as long as the supply is there.

I AGREE....

Not always in the realm of pharmaceuticals....and in Argentina it's no different. Hopefully, I am wrong.
