No Alcohol This Weekend.

Election done and dusted. As with any election, many will be buying something to drink to either celebrate or commiserate tonight.
  • Adorni (LLA) won the election with 30.13%
  • Leandro Santoro (Peronism) came second place with 27.35%
  • Lospennato (PRO) came in third at 15.93% - first time in 18 years that PRO did not come first in the city and no longer governs
Interesting to note that the victory of LAA in CABA follows similar victories in provincial elections recently - a party that in the last legislative elections barely existed and almost half-way through the first term of the national presidency won by LAA and the implementation of many of their policies to date.
  • Santa Fe - 14% (third place, first place went to a PRO-like provincial party)
  • Salta - 25% (first place)
  • Jujuy - 20% (second place after PRO-like provincial party)
  • San Luis - 5% (fourth place, first place went to a PRO-like provincial party)
  • Chaco - 45% (first place)

What now for PRO? That is one seriously broken political party. They were handed a death warrant by flip-flopping Patty Bullshit. How did they expect to do even close to well with no name recognition Lospennato? Looks like PRO will disappear faster than they arrived.

And with that fades the chance for moderate politics in Argentina for the foreseeable future. Argentine voters will keep going further rightward by choice or necessity simply to avoid going backward to a past that the vast majority continue to reject as a fundamental principle.

IMO PRO (and other minor centrist parties) will simply end up merging with LAA just like Patty did, as neither will get enough seats to govern on their own but together they will have the lion's share of seats and an important role to play in the provinces. Most PRO voters if cornered would rather cringe and accompany change than vote based off of futile ideals of a more "central" politics that doesn't exist at this moment or change "sides" and go Peronist/ Kirchnerist which represents the antithesis to their personal beliefs and wellbeing.
