Hi all. Maybe I just goofed or maybe there is simply no way out of this . I just booked my annual US trip with Delta.com TODAY. I compared fares also using Kayak. I logged onto my Delta.com where I have a Delta Amex credit card saved and bought a $1500 round trip ticket that they added the 20% surcharge to when I went to pay, even though I used a US credit card with my US billing address. Total cost EZE PHL EZE 2065.00USD. I guess I thought using deltas website in the US and a US credit card would avoid that. But unfortunately it did not. It was detailed as an additional charge for flights originating in Argentina under the detail of additional taxes/charges.
Anyone have any experiences VERY recently with this? BTW it wasn't until I made the LAST STEP of the booking that they added the charge. Up until that point it was shown as $1600.00 ...
Also BEWARE FOR FUTURE: for Delta ff--they are changing their air miles accumulated for your flights starting 2015. They will no longer be based on the length of your flight, but will be based on the cost of your ticket...us little people have just become "littler.."..

People should go to the actual ticket office and demand that they take out the 35% surcharge when paying with foreign cards or currencies. Doing it online will leave you with no way to fight it off.

Interesting, I wonder what the charges would look like if you booked argentine airline to somewhere closer, like brazil then delta to the US?

Chet, it doesn't make a difference, they're charging it because their systems have a glitch, they would still charge you for the entire journey, unless you buy the ticket in person, then you can force someone or s supervisor to override the 35% charge.

I honestly think it doesn't matter. If the flight ORIGINATES in ARG they charge you. I'm curious if anyone has had any other experiences? Certainly I will try to get the credit at the airport with my US passport and credit card. But I think it won't matter because the flight is starting here. Anyone have any other experiences lately?

@Chet, wouldn't want to make my flight that much longer by changing airlines, long layovers. But maybe it would work. I dunno!

Hmmm I didn't notice that when I was looking at EZE-SCL-YYZ-PEK (return) for $1350 USD (my friend said he'd foot most of the bill but still)

Talk about crazy, if I wanted to visit friends in Toronto or Europe its $1200 but I want to go to Beijing to see my friend its $100 more?

Philly or China, which is cheper? Its not the one you'd think.

Anyone know why?

I know the 35% charge is not the law. The website doesn't let you correct their mistake. I won't enter another debate on this like the last time. My advice, go to the ticket office. It will matter.

I would cancel with delta or my credit card within 24 hours.... and look at united or american... if the online doesnt work.. maybe call them to purchase??? the airlines are a rip off enough already... you hate to pay this 35% rip-off surcharge on a US credit card.... but I am cheap..haha

This is outrageous! I would paste this on their social media sites. If you are taxable in Argentina, it has to be in pesos!!! 35% goes towards income tax. LaCoqueta, do you have a local credit card? paying for this with a local credit card is 12000 pesos ( 1500 x 8 ) + 35% surcharge 4200 = 16200 pesos, but paying this with a foreign cc 1500 usd + 525 usd = 2025 usd // 21800 pesos - at blue rate.

If I was you I would cancel this purchase and would do it all in pesos with a local credit card asap ( this will work if you have perm residency or visa and a local cc )
