Older Folks Er,senior Citizens Health Cost In Argentina

I don't know if I should wade in here or not with my limited information. Unlike Lacoqueta, I am an OLDER older person. I did not look thoroughly for insurance but when I found out it would cost me $800 US a month for insurance here in BA at the source I did look, I decided against any insurance at all. I never eat refined food, eat almost all raw, fresh vegetable juice, as much organic as I can get and so on, and am never sick unless I miss my coffee (my one violation of the rules) and I can get a serious headache in that case.

BUT . . . four years ago I fell in Santiago Chile and cut my face wide open on a construction site. A bystander offered to take me to the hospital, fortunately my son was there with his great Spanish, it was on a Sunday. I went to the emergency room, saw two doctors, my son insisted on a plastic surgeon who came from home, spent a couple hours doing a great job doing repairs and they allowed my son in the room with us, gave me a call back date to remove the stitches. Total cost $650 US. The care was fantastic, the doctors were darling. I figured I'd have to have it redone in the States but you can't see it. I don't know how much things have changed but that my experience in Chile.

Although I pay my own medical care (I don't live off Argentina's generosity) I also fell here in the building and my wrist looked broken--had a large protrusion. My neighbor in alarm took me to the nearest hospital which is a free one. They x-rayed, told me it wasn't broken and explained the protrusion, tried to help me see a specialist and I said no I'll wait and see if I need it, they put a half cast on my arm to keep it stable, which came off in two weeks without my returning to the doctor. I am fine.

Maybe this will give you a little helpful information to add in with the rest.

The private health plan is OSDE not ODESA. http://www.osde.com.ar/
If I were you, I'd take a month off. Come down here & visit both Chile & Argentina. Then make a decision as to where you feel most comfortable in.
good luck.

Helooo, la coqueta-san! Thank you for your relevant posting to my questionings in here. (I am 62) Hooom, you could have fooled me, in the avatar if that is you, you look as 40sh young and muy _bonita_ to boot! ODESA? you are the 2nd person mentioning this private health plan, one person saz pays only AR$1400.00 and you pay still very affordable AR$3000.00 in comparison to what I pay to kaiser Permanente plans here in CA which cost me US$975.00 ouch dollars per month! My destination place for my retirenment life has got to have _ excellent and affordable health care_ as you put it above. Thinking of Chile but there I found out that one if reached the age of 60, then you are out of any excellent "private health care plans" and does have to rely on General Hospital plans. Now the Milongas and parties sounds much fun.. Tango, Asados, Vinos, and passionate genre attracts me very much... Muchas Gracias indeed.!

For your reference a Health Care plan in Chile for gents over 60 with Vida Integra a division of Banmedica, costs about $150 per month

Rich One, are the premiums listed on the site? I couldn't find it but my Spanish is nothing to brag about. When I checked on it, if you were over 70 the costs really went up. I guess they're so sure you're going to need something serious.

Arlean-san, Muchas Gracias for your posting in here. I think I read your fallin' whilst in Chile incident in one of Chilean blogs. So you did not like to stay in Chile after all? Do you or are you current living in Argentina? That unfortunate event there sorry to hear of, are you completely recovered from the surgery now? Only US$650 to do such cosmetic surgery is unheard of in the states! Be well, and careful there in Argentina....

Rich One - san, I have been told there in Chile gringo sites that the ISAPRE ( the private ones ) are not avaialble for gents over the age of 60..? I really not wanting to go to FONASA ( national free services ) in moment of dire needs..I have been in general hospitals here in the states, accompanying a friend once. The people waitin' to have their turn come up, they were agonising in pain!
