Opinions about Almagro

The are in Almagro you will want to avoid is around Diaz Velez Ave towards Parque Centenario ( lots of taken buildings ) and the Parque Centenario surroundings at night ( lots of drug selling activity in the area ) The rest is ok, middle class neighborhood with very good transportation. Avoid Abasto mall surroundings at night, but that is another neighborhood.

Isn't this Caballito not Almagro?
Still that said I often walk back from Viejo Correo ( frente Parque Centenario) at two or three in the morning and the only trouble we have ever had is dodging the guys hosing the dog do off the pavements.:D

i wish u guys would have lived in nyc in the 80s..with the crack epidemic going on. bsas isnt that bad

I grew up in New York City in the 70s & 80s. A lot of people have no idea how scary it was, nothing I have ever seen even comes close to how scary some neighborhoods were. The only thing here that is remotely similar to the south bronx of that time period is the Villa Fraga, near Chacarita and parts of Villa Riachuelo. Even the upper west side where I lived which is now high class had some very scary blocks and was full of drug dealers and gangs.

Nope, Caballito starts at Rio de Janiero/Rio de La Plata and Rivadavia. thought it changed at Rivadavia, but Almagro extends all the way up to Ave. Independencia, if you can believe it.

I really like the area around P. Centenario, but if I lived in Almagro again I'd probably prefer to be more central in the barrio and closer to Cordoba/Lavalle. And I agree with rrptownley, not only can you explore more easily lots of cool areas, but on a bike you can get pretty much anywhere lickety-split.
