Since posting originally, I spoke at length with one of the vendors there. This is much more than an organic coop. It is an attempt to promote fair trade and small family farming/businesses, side-stepping large corporations that take all the profits at the expense of the workers and their families.
From a pamphlet:
"comercio justo, economía solidaria, produccion sin trabajo esclavo, agricultura familiar"
"Organizaciones Produciendo Valores"
"Descubrí un mercado diferente, conocé al que produce y elabora"
It is nice to know that all the many wonderful things I buy there help real, hard-working people across this country. The quality of everything is the best I've seen here. They offer a wide range of products, from yerba mate and milk in glass bottles to chocolate and cocoa, from olives, jarred tomatoes, and hand-made mistol liquors to eggs and chickens and sausage... on my!
They're located at Bonpland 1660 (between Honduras y Gorriti) in Palermo Hollywood. They are open every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 to 20 hs.
