Hello all,

I’m moving to BA in the summer and was curious if anyone here has a car.

My questions are:

What does it cost you to have one, between payment, parking, insurance, gas etc?

How difficult/ easy is it to have a vehicle in BA?

Thank you

Parking inside a secure garage near us (Palermo) is $130,000 pesos per month and up depending on car truck etc...

Basic insurance (Zurich third party, fire, & theft via 123 Seguros) 80,000 Pesos for a mid-sized SUV. Petrol (nafta) 1156 Pesos / litre for 95 octane, 1411 Pesos / litre for V-Power 98 octane. Petrol goes up every month.

I have two pickup trucks.
Both are paid for in full so no monthly finance/lease payment to consider.
Insurance on the newer and nicer of the two is about 181k pesos per month for "riesgo total" and Patente (registration) is about 5% of the value of vehicle per year. Parking is 150k pesos per month per vehicle. Low sulfur Diesel fuel is about 1450 pesos per liter (can get a discount using YPF app some days of the week). Annual maintenance is around $250 USD per year for a basic oil change at the deal (newer of the trucks is still under warranty, many vehicles here come with at least a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty).
It's very easy to have a vehicle in BA as long as you can afford it. For many people who live in the central areas of the city owning a car would be a complete waste of money as Uber and taxis are much cheaper and hassle free forms of transportation.

Thank you. I have a big dog and the dog park that I think I’ll be going to is an hour walk, or a 15 min drive. If I took the taxi route, do you have any recommendations/know of any that allow big dogs?

FYI, car financing (in the American sense, where you get the keys without paying the full balance) is very rare...and when it exists it has a lot of strings attached. You might get 12 months financing on 30% of the sale price for example. 70% is required up front to qualify. Some offer longer payment terms but with punitive interest rates. Most "car payments" down here are layaway plans.

Thanks for the info here. Does this apply to care leasing too?

Out of interest do they run a system of no claims discount like they do in the UK(not sure if its a thing in the US/rest of the world)?
