He used the Prey software... I have it installed as well but not sure how it works (and hopefully will never need to!) . Also available for devices. It has saved a lot of stolen items in the USA.

Now why under the caption of the picture it says

- that's not Mike nor the victim.

Software like Prey is great in these cases, but their main issue is that you have to trust the service provider a lot. Basically, it's like a build-in trojan horse and you can just hope that no one except you in case of a theft will use it.
