It is a wholesaler, similar idea to Costco/BJs/etc in the US. And they don't deliver. Nor do they take credit cards - cash/debit cards only. They don't require a paid membership but you do need a DNI I believe. And AFAIK, they don't have any stores in Cap Fed.

If you have a car or transportation, you can get really good deals by driving over to the Mercado Central. If you have several friends, you could buy all sorts of products (often the same ones you find in the grocery store) for half or a quarter of the price, and share the products you have to buy in bulk. You also have stores that sell products in bulk, and you can find some savings there as well. It's worth an investigation if you've got a friend that has a car.

As previously mentioned, mayoristas can save you quite a lot if you are willing to buy in bulk. This is especially true if you make a monthly run to buy non-perishables. Is there a law in Argentina that prevents supermarkets from telling you how their prices compare to the competitors?

In the UK you regularly get Asda, Tesco etc showing 2 trolleys full and saying "for the same price as in the opposition you can get double the amount.... blah blah

It seems like all the supermarkets in Argentina have a cartel going and aren't interested in competing with one another in prices :huh:

Panorama (BBC One) did an episode on this about a year ago (http://www.bbc.co.uk/panorama/hi/front_page/newsid_9652000/9652944.stm). Whatever the supermarkets tells us. They are after all in it for the money.
