Lilita Carrio is the AR politician who got about 2,6 % of the votes last election BUT she was a lot in camera in the last weeks because she is a serial denunciatory of public offices (politicians) for embezzlement. However, this time she is acused and the evidences are very clear. She represents very well the how are many politicians in this country.

As an attorney here you well understand that the justice system is a joke and that anybody can make a "denuncia penal" against anybody else with essentially no proof at all. Carrio is a (politically) washed up blowhard for sure but she is not corrupt and went immediately in front of a judge by her own free will to present her "declaracion jurada" as a means of clearing her name. In fact, all the details of her personal assets are and have been available on her personal website.

Sleazemerchant makes a valid point which should also hold true for all of the wild allegations we read every day about the politicians we dislike AND those we like: tomorrow I could file a denuncia saying Boudou raped my hamster and that could legally make it onto the front page, but it has nothing to do with reality. And inevitably, if the pol in question is disliked by the media, when my denuncia inevitably is tossed out, a micro note might appear in small print on page 52 of La Nación.

The larger points here are:

1. How uncritically we the public slurp up partial information from an utterly unscrupulous media, and

2. How anybody can easily draw a crowd by shouting "corruption!" In this case, Carrió's poison has been turned on her, but these corruption cases of who has an undeclared estates or what not, never go to the real issues of corruption that effect a $700b economy. For example look at Menem; the guy sold of the country's assets for a song, privatised everything he could get his hands on thus causing one of the the worst economic crashes in world history, leaving millions starving and vast unemployment and infrastructure damage to a country of 40 million souls and the only thing the pelotudo gets charged with are petty corruption and arms trafficking charges. Pan et circo.

C'mon Bajo, Elisa Carrio has been in the game for ages, she is never going to be president, but she is a great figure to have around because she's probably one of the few decent politicians out there (decent as in honorable).

Funny how, just a year ago no K supporter would fight or acknowledge the opposition - they would simply pretend the opposition did not exist. Now, after many many failures, it seems like they are trying to do some damage control.
