Hola!

I'm going to Bariloche in August with my cousin. Well, I'm hoping to, unless the cenizas keep us away.

Any recommendations for places to stay near the ski resort?

Any recommendations in general regarding Bariloche? Websites? Is it easy to rent ski and snowboarding equipment there? Do we need to rent a car to get around? Is it fun to go snow shoeing as well? Is there more than one ski resort?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If you want be avoid flight cancellations take the bus: www.viabariloche.com.ar, the buses were only suspended for 3 days after the initial eruption, the airport remains closed and I suspect will remain so for a while longer....

If you stay at the resort Cerro Catedral you wont need a car. From the resort to down town Bariloche is about 40 mins on the bus: every hour or so from 7am - 9pm (AR$8 one way).

There are loads of places to rent ski or snowboards at the mountain, no need to reserve in advance. There are discounts of high season lift tickets because of the ceniza and if the airport remains closed the slopes will be empty....

For good 'apres ski' consider staying downtown.

Hi Jez, I know it is probably quite hard to predict but if it does snow, do you expect the skiing conditions to be affected by the ash? I am just about to book a trip ... and might easily get the bus instead of flying. Thanks

For someone who's been, what would be the rough costs for a week skiing in Bariloche?

No, the snow won't be effected by the ash, as the prevailing winds are going east and Cerro Catedral is a little to the south east. The ash has all but stopped in Bariloche with a very small amount of very fine ash on some days, it's not getting as far south as Cerro Catedral.

Definately take the bus.

My one bedroom apartment in down town Bariloche is u$s 109 night/ u$s 652 week: http://www.staybariloche.com

A hotel in Bariloche will be cheaper than at the mountain.
