I had very mixed feelings about posting this on the forum. I have not personally met @Redpossum, but he has been posting on Baexpats for a long time since his arrival to Buenos Aires. He did not have relatives here or back in the US, just one or two very good friends that became worried as he had not been active online in the last few days and tried to get a hold of him. These friends are all abroad in very distant places.

I found out yesterday that Chris passed last Thursday alone at home in the City. I have notified the US Embassy. It strikes me that somebody can be so alone. I guess that the expat community as heterogeneous as it is is not very close. I don't think Chris' passing should go unnoticed. I think the least I can do is this tiny tribute to his life. Hope he is now in a better place, did not suffer and is now resting in peace.

Many thanks, Nikad. I was afraid of something like this being the outcome. A sad day for so many of us. He is greatly missed already. RIP, sweet man.

Well, this is the news I think we all had feared might be coming

Thank you Nikad and quilleroarg for confirming, I'm sure it wasn't easy...

The only reason I came on today was to check to see if anyone had heard from him. As I was wrapping things up ahead of our move, he DMed me a lovely and funny message, and while we weren't on a first name basis, I earnestly did value his perspective (even if I didn't always agree with it) and I told him I wasn't planning on being a stranger despite no longer living in Argentina, and I wasn't going to leave him alone with all the crazies as he worried.

I will always remember and appreciate his humor and anecdotes; despite being text on a screen, some people's personalities still shine through, and while we never met, I am thankful to have known him, and will miss his presence here amongst us.

RIP Chris; give Milei & Uncle Sam hell from wherever you're hanging your hat now...

Thank you Nikad, it was a wonderful gesture to check on him. I'm sure he would be pleased that our little community in this corner of the world had a chance to say goodbye. Farewell Chris, we are but a brief moment in the river before going over the falls.

He was having a hard time financially. That, coupled with age and physical infirmity, takes a toll mentally. It's not the way anyone wants to spend their later years, but it's the way many end up.

He seemed like a nice guy from the tenor and tone of his posts. Someone with a compassionate finger on the pulse of the human condition in Buenos Aires. If there is an afterlife, I hope that he's better off.
