....The elimination of the 35% tariff, scheduled from April, includes finished computers, notebooks, all in one and desktop PC's. While in the case of computer parts affects accessories (such as printers, plotters) and other technological goods (servers, LED parts).....

Ambito.com Poll:
Do you think that the elimination of import tariffs will lead to a decrease in prices?

So I can order a brand new laptop and have it delivered to door without any import fees? They can't deliver a $3 cable without stealing/losing it - not sure I am willing to trust them with a $1000 notebook...

The Government evaluates the reduction of the tariffs on the importation of cellular telephones

They are studying the measure for application in the medium or long term. Tariffs would not be eliminated in full as it would benefit countries like Brazil and would harm the national industry.

The Government formalized on Monday via Decree 117/2017, as published in the Official Gazette, the measure that establishes, as of April 1, the tariff reduction for the import of electronic products, set at 35%. The decision exempts cell phones and smartphones, but according to El Cronista, in Casa Rosada they evaluate to extend it to that sector in the medium term.

Official sources told this media that "as yet" will not change that point, but admitted that a decision in that regard, when studied, will be applied in a different way to that taken in the case of other technological products. The process of implementing such a measure will be more extensive and different aspects will be considered to prevent domestic industry production from collapsing.

"You cannot lower tariffs to cell phones because taking such a decision would benefit Brazil," they added, referring to the strong production of phones that the neighboring country develops in the Industrial Pole of Manaos. Such a resolution could entail a massive importation of telephones from there, to the detriment of the national artifacts.

Although it did not transcend the percentage of possible future tariffs, in the sector they speculate that it can be between 12% and 16%, and maintain that, if set in motion, Brazil could effectively become a player with more weight in the country....

Yes, importing phones from Brazil is bad because it may benefit Brazilian producers, it is obviously a much better idea to have everyone in Argentina overpay at least 35% for their phones to keep those Brazilians in their place. And you thought the previous government was economically illiterate, welcome to crony capitalism without the free handouts.
