Rental Apartment Robbery In Palermo Hollywood

Sorry, a further question. Did your porterno have an access key to the appartment?

Have you considered the renter as a suspect? Insurance fraud doesn't seem unlikely.p here. He left for 4 hours without his cell phone? Not if he's under 40...

What Philip Dt is saying makes a lot of sense to me! Especially coupled with the facts that his documents are intact. sometimes, when crime happens, we need to suspect those who seem to be the most unlikely suspect.

Like someone wise has said " the answer lies within!!"

I felt the same, I was wondering if the renter did it.
Usually tourists are not intereted in keeping a key copy, there is really not
much dinero to commit a crime like that. Too much trouble to do something
in a foreign country.

Also it happened when the renter was out, you have to have a lot
of patience to wait for a good timing. Also there was not much physical damage.

Concur with PhilipDT. They took electronics but not docs? Really? Do you know for how much you can sell a passport and credits cards here? Much more than a stereo.

And, no one saw anyone walking out of the building carrying a 32" TV?

The obvious clues are pointing to the renter.

What a bummer. Have installed a simple surveillance system using Foscams with infrared. Emails images instantly when motion is detected. Cheapo way to go I think: ~$80.00. Very satisfied with performance. Hind sight 20/20. Also may wish to think about a fingerprint door lock. Adapted one I brought from the US for AR locks. Think it is pretty much fool proof, but who knows.

It's a tough call. There was definitely some weirdness to the robbery including leaving the documents and credit cards along with some electronics.

Another thought was that the renter went out and brought someone back to the apartment too who may have drugged him? I'd be too embarrassed to mention that. Of course, all of this is speculation. I don't think insurance fraud was part of it though. He's working here and not having his laptop is a major inconvenience, plus they took all the guys clothes. All he has is the t-shirt and jeans he was wearing. He's from Denmark and only just got here last week... seems hard to believe it would be him. That's also a reason for not taking your cell phone - there's no one to call as he's alone here.

The portero does not have an access key.

The timing of the robbery in a 4-hour window on a Saturday afternoon is a bit difficult to figure out too. I'm not sure how someone would have know the apartment would be unoccupied. The neighbor was home at the time and did not hear anything either.

As for them opening the Safe, it isnt that hard to open a lot of the cheap electronic safes, I opened one with a nail clipper in 5 seconds using the key bypass the other day.

Just saw this video and realized how insecure these safes are:

A cheap solution you can use right away?

To have five different sets of locks and you change the lock everytime you rent the place to a new person.

This was one of my thoughts, but if he had been drugged and robbed, most likely they would have taken the keys with them when they left, and since you didn't mention anything about missing keys I ruled that out.

Find it difficult to digest that they left the Denmark passport intact.
