And yes, it is a bit hard to type a lot on an iphone so I apologize for my poor spelling, however read some of your posts, nice grammar "before I could speak more than a couple sentences in Spanish. " I think you meant a couple of sentences in Spanish. Anyway, I am not going to get into a personal match with you. I respect your opinions and agree with many, however you did say "I'm sorry, but that is an incredibly naive statement. Just how much time have you spent in Argentina?" which was in response to my saying "the assumption or statement that you WILL get ripped off by someone in Argentina is just ridiculous." so I think you statement was absolute because I had a definitive word in there "WILL" so you did say people would get ripped off. I took exception to that. So, I am going to end this argument because it is pointless, I hope some of this was helpful to someone and I am sorry it got personal. I did not intend that to happen, but you surely did. By the way, I do not have an MBA, I have a JD

Yes, counselor, we can all be defensive when we need to be.

Not being deliberately offensive is certainly preferable.

Nonetheless, getting ripped off here is common and often happens to foreigners in the blink of an eye.

Just take enough taxis.

Or shop for an apartment and ask enough questions.

I'm not cynical. I'm experienced.

If you come to Argentina you WILL probably get ripped off.

You may be robbed in the street or just overcharged by a lawyer or taxi driver.

I was in Argentina less than 20 minutes before the airport vet charged me $100 dollars to let me bring my dog into the country. (The real fee was about five dollars.)

I have been short changed by taxi drivers and my girlfriend was robbed in the street by a guy on a moto. While I was in the USA, two thugs tried to get into my apartment by pulling a knife on another resident of my building.

Many expats I know have been victims of crime here, including a prominent member of this forum.

EMR may be living in an Argentine paradise, but I know of few others who are quite so fortunate.

In fact, a few of my Argentine friends still talk about the bank deposits that disappeared overnight in 2002...as well as some of their relatives who disappeared during the "dirty war" in the 70's and early 80's.

Please don't tell me it isn't necessary to bring that up now.

I have nothing to gain by making referrals. I thought the idea here was to exchange ideas and give people useful information that they could evaluate for themselves. I referred someone that did a great job for me. Nothing else.
