Rentista passive income through irrevocable trust?

I procured rentista residency 4 times. I'm not sure a self-drafted, self-funded, self administered trust will be an acceptable vehicle. In my experience, if Migraciones doesn't understand the nature of the asset that produces the passive income, they ask a lot of questions. Their ideal asset, which pretty much gets rubber-stamped, is a rental property with a long term tenant contract. The farther your source of passive income strays from this ideal, the more complications you may have.

Consider also that under the new(er) residencia rentista regime, you have to not only verify the passive income-producing asset. You also have to provide a linked bank account in the country where the asset is domiciled, open an Argentine bank account and transfer all funds that flow from the asset to the domiciled bank account to the Argentine bank account. If you want to renew, you have to prove this was done on a monthly basis. In other words, say you have a condo in Chicago, the rental income flows into Bank of America, and you have an account in Argentina with Santander. You have to prove that the income flowed from 1 to 2 to 3 monthly.

Last time I renewed my residencia rentista, Migraciones demanded that ALL passive income from the asset in question flow into Argentina. Not just an amount sufficient to cover the minimum requirement. All the income. So if your passive-income asset throws off $10K per month and you apply for residencia rentista, Migraciones wants all $10K per month flowing into Argentina. Given the discrepancies in conversion rates at the time and the other hassles associated with banking in Argentina, it was easier for me to move to a different country. I packed up my dollars and left.

For what it's worth, I've had a different experience with my most recent rentista applications. It's totally possible that Migraciones asked for different things from each of us, I have no reason to believe they're consistent! But it has been sufficient (so far) for me to just show evidence of the minimum coming into the country and show evidence of the $2k per person generated by the asset.
