I dropped my MacBook Pro yesterday and broke the screen. The computer is still functional but the screen has cracked in a million places. Does anyone know where I can get the screen replaced? I suppose I should go to the Apple Store?

I'm worried that this is going to be very expensive!

There is no official Apple store here, and from what I hear MacStation is horrible with repairs - some reports of months and months waiting for parts. You'll probably better off flying to Miami, and I'm not saying that jokingly...

Let us know how it goes though.

There is a guy in Olivos who specializes in phone screen replacements. He could perhaps do it. If he can , you could Air Freight a replacement screen down. PM me if you need a shipper , who will get the screen through customs.

For the guy in Olivos , I believe Gringoboy knows his contact info.

This is more complicated than I thought!

Some people on an Apple site predicted that a new screen would cost approx. $800 if I had Apple fix it (in the US). And then I watched a youtube video last night that made the point that the screen itself should cost about $50 but that I would need all kinds of special tools, which of course I don't have.

But I will look into my options. Thank you!

Just buy a 2nd hand mac book pro from one of the expats and use it till u get back to usa.

You are correct. New screen from apple US$800

Replacement screen US$50-70

My brother in law here replaced mine.

Falabella is having a big fathers day sale ............

Not familiar with the dude but ppl usually recommend Mac Daddy on this board.

Another option is just hooking up an external monitor for the time being.

I did a search and found MacDaddy's email and wrote him to see if he could help.

And so far, I'm mainly using my iPad... although it is problematic because I am here in BA to work on a research project (i.e., I need to write approx. 100 pages).

Anyway, there is bound to be a solution. Thanks for all of the help!
