St.John: Yes, I probably am cheating! At least a bit. Because I am friendly and open. But, I don't walk around with a giant smile on my face all the time, and I don't say hello to every person (simply because I'm not used to it in Norway). And still they are really nice to me

There have been a lot of comments about the people in Argentina. I'm from the U.S., and I really don't see how it is all that different. People are people. Some are nice, some are rude. I don't think nationality has anything to do with it.

Yes, people are different, and you'll find good and bad people everywhere. However, there are som differences in everyday behaviour that seem to change from place to place . I completly understand that one may feel that Argentines are mean people if you come from a place where everybody is extremly polite and always smiling. But, it's not right to make the assumption that because they're not behaving exactly like your used to they have to be evil, bad people.

An example: a lot of students coming to Norway feel that norwegians are cold and distant, and some may interpret this as us being bad people. But, we're not evil or even have a slightly bad intention behind our behaviour, we're just used to different things! When a person I don't know starts talking to me at a busstop in Norway, I get kind of weirded out (thinking this must be a desperate, crazy person). Is this stupid of me? Yes. But, because talking to strangers on busstop is not normal (only if you're an old lonely person, or hitting on someone) in Norway, I react.

At my studentvillage I used to find africans to be really "annoying", always talking to me for no particular reason. Then I visited Zambia and Zimbabwe, and learned that they're not desperate or annoying, they're just behaving like they're used to! And oh how I loved being in places where people smiled to each other and always made smalltalk! But in a way, it could be kind of exhausting, as I'm not used to making "meaningless" smalltalk, and kind of enjoy my "alone with my ipod" time.

So: to me Buenos Aires seems to be the perfect fit. People don't "bother" me for no particular reason, but when contact is initiated it's always delightful!

This is exactly how it is where I'm from in the U.S. I once worked at a convenience store. One time a man walked in, and I was busy restocking or something. Well, my manager heard the doorbell chime, but he didn't hear me say "Hello" or "Good morning." I got reprimanded. I just didn't notice that a customer entered the store!

The funny thing about greeting customers is that most people will admit that it's so disingenuous. On the other hand, if it is not done, people get their panties in a twist. Let's be honest, I'll bet 99% of people in customer service probably could not careless about how you are doing today. (Hey, I was genuine! )

I think BA is just like any other big city. Many studies have indicated that population density tends to cause people to isolate themselves. I know that after working a five day workweek at a convenience store that I didn't want to be social at all.

Argentinians are easy to misunderstood but they are in general good people with faults and imperfections. Porteños are stand offish and wary of strangers like many big city people but if you make the effort they will make excellent loyal friends .

Too many people judge people on facial values and notice that people rarely smile on the streets here of Capital Federal . It does not mean that they are unfriendly at all . If you ask people for directions here 99 percent will give you the time of day.
I say to all of you go to comedies, go to plays , go to milongas and you will see Argentines in their element socialising and laughing even

Sorry if my Norwegian offended anyone. Figuered you all knew google translate anyways, and a little Norwegian is always nice I think the correct translation of what I'm studying would be "master of technology in industrial design" , and "nam nam nam" means yum yum yum

And no, I don't like fish (or any other seafood). I could blame the US, because Disney made me want to be a little mermaid when I was little, and then I couldn't eat my friends (the fish..yes). But, in reality I didn't care for the taste anyways, so it wasn't a hard sacrifice. A real steak has always been my favourite, maybe because it's so expensive in Norway that I rarely get to eat it. No, that's not it, because I eat steak here all day every day!!

I don't ski either...not really much of a norwegian, am I?
