Thanks for all the suggestions. Just spoke to my guest, he went to a Movistar downtown and they said they didn't have the nano, they didn't offer to cut one for him and he didn't know about that possibility so didn't ask. I've explained now and will look for a place on ML near Congresso/Monserrat/downtown that offers this.

A lot of locations are out of the nano sims. I went to a Claro on the corner of Callao and Cordoba, where they just cut a micro sim down with scissors. It works fine.

Not that I would have an iPhone 5 until it is at least 2 years old, but I had heard that the iPhone 5 needed an even smaller card and that it couldn't be done at this time. I stand corrected...
...again, not that I had to worry about it anyway.
