Social Security 2025: New Payment Schedule & Deposit Dates Timeline

Will it affect us expats?
I've usually gotten mine by the 3rd of the month, regardless of what day of the week it might be, and I seem to remember we agreed that was the same for all of us here in Argentina...
Jeez, waiting another week for my moolah is going to be a pain.

My SS income has been deposited into my US bank no later than the 4th of every month regardless of the
day of the week. Yes, it will affect all retirees. Those residing in the US as well as all those living abroad.

Shit.

Well, thanks for the reply, and thanks for posting this to begin with. I would have been seriously worried if you hadn't warned us.

So, how many frantic phone calls and emails do you think the embassy is going to get in the first 10 days of January asking some variant of "WHERE'S MY MONEY?!?"

I just searched for "change in Social Security payment schedule" and found this:

The article includes the following:

"While the Social Security Administration sets its annual payment schedule well in advance of the year, the payment dates could take some seniors by surprise this month, for both better and worse,"

Perhaps the changes that "apply to all of us" appear in the link, but I haven't been able to open it.

I will log into My Social Security account tomorrow morning and see if I have already been notified of any changes. I received the December payment on the third of December.

PS: One way or another, we should know for sure on the third of January.

I was just able to open the link and see the same chart posted earlier by gracielle.

I noticed that the third day of each month appears outlined. I am not yet sure if future payments on the third of each month will apply only to individuals who receive SSI and if those of us living outside of the USA will begin receiving payments based on our birth dates.

when they went to the birthday based system in 1997, people already on SS were kept on the 3rd of the month. I assume because natural attrition will take care of it. Everyone who has started on SS since that time has been on the 2nd/3rd/4th Wednesday system. Except, for some reason, people who also get SSI, and SS recipients in a foreign country.
At a guess, the vast majority of recipients who filed prior to 1997 have now passed on and recipients in a foreign country are about the only ones NOT on the birthday based system.
So, they're cleaning it up.
