The Falklands Play

Is this available anywhere online? Unfortunately it is not on Amazon Prime.

Does the "ungentlemanly act" refer to something Argentines did? Are we then to infer that Argentines are not gentleman?

Not all the facts in this play were properly researched.

At the end of part 8 when announcing the sinking of the Belgrano in the House of Commons, Quote...."our submarines did not attack escorting destroyers in the hope that they would assist survivors"

Well not quite... The ARA Bouchard was hit by a torpedo from HMS Conqueror (the third one it fired) which didn't explode, but crippled the ship.
Tell you how I know, one of my best friends was on it. It's not something you'd easily forget, being in a ship hit by a nuclear torpedo.

Then quote... "regrettably the escorts rapidly removed themselves from the scene before picking up their own men in the water"

Actually the Bouchard was taking on a lot of water, and they had to fix that first of course besides having no steering afterwards and could only navigate in huge circles in the hope of saving survivors from the Belgrano which they eventually did, a day later.

I don't know how accurate it is, but i will tell you this, the bouchard didnt leave because it was hit by a torpedo( non nuclear) and they couldn't get away fast enough.
The Belgrano had a flotilla of escorts with her which they left the moment the cruiser was hit
I don't know if this is regular navy procedure in order to not risk any more ships until it is established the attack had ended.
I don't recall exactly now since we don't talk about it much, but according to my cousing manning the radio at the Santisima Trinidad on task force north being part of the carrier 25 de mayo escort, the radio traffic at that point was that no one wanted to go back for the survivors......

This is also free on Amazon Prime. This is highly rated on IMDB (7.7). I haven't seen something so overrated since Interstellar. The actors are all B List. It's pretty hard to pull off Margaret Thatcher as it is. The story is only from the British view. It would have been far more interesting to see what was going on in the Argentine side as well. The money they saved on the actors was not used for productions values - everything was shot in the studio. No scenes in the South Atlantic nor Buenos Aires. No scenes in London either - just indoors.

I thought it was a good play, it was on bbc4 so you can hardly expect game of thrones production costs for such a subject, and there were some snippets from Buenos Aires albeit old news footage.

The ungentlemanly act was to invade the Falklands in the first place.
This phrase is attributed to Rex Hunt and is typical British understatement, for which we are famous, apparently.

I watched An Ungentlemanly Act again last night on YouTube and thoroughly enjoyed it.
What I enjoyed most was the focus on the islanders and all those small details. The politics we already know.
Bob Peck was great as usual as was Richardson as Rex Hunt.
Major Dowling...well, what can I say?

I watched this last night. It was pretty good and had real actors unlike The Falklands Play.
