The Luck Of The World Cup Draw.

Can you Imagine that, Brazil-Argentina, the worlds biggest derby, at the final, in Brazil? Another Maracanazo!!

I can picture riots, looting and lynchings. Specially if Brazil looses.

Huh?! Germany behind Argentina?!

very odd since Germany should be ranked 1st or eventually 2nd.
I think the Germans proved that Argentinas style of run and gun soccer is passe. New game.

Run and gun? If you knew much about football you might argue that fast transitions from defense to attack with efficient and accurate passing is what the germans did best from the 70s through the 80s, they lost there way in the 90s with a stodgy team and a failing domestic league, the re-invented their league and got back to what they do best, fast , accurate and devastating.

However, to call Argentina passé when they came top of the s.american qualifying group is spectacularly wrong! The players that argentina cannot accomodate in their front 3 would walk into most teams in the world. In messi, di maria and aguero they have some thing truly outstanding to offer. Any midfield anchored by mascherano is worth talking about and the back 4 aren't as bad as people think. They conceded remarkably few goals in a 2 yr qualifying campaign, much less than chile who are the current footballing hipsters choice!

To call them passe is just plain wrong. The formation is pretty fluid although it relies on messi, although much much less than portugal rely on ronaldo. Germany without Ozil wouldn't be the same and Italy would go home early without Pirlo. Honestly, you have to be making cheap digs here or else you don't understand much about football.

Because of the way people live football and the weight the countries have in the football scenario, with the Maradona-Pelé discussion, World Cups won in both sides, etc, etc, etc, I think is the biggest derby. There are others, I know, very important, Scotland has a HUGE rivalry with England, also England with Argentina or Uruguay-Argentina (everyone has a 'special' match against us  ).... anyway, I predict a growth in the rivalry US-England, that when soccer reach another world level..

Soccer is a niche sport in the US, and nobody really cares enough to establish an international "rivalry."
