The New 50

I sincerely hope that the first thing that the new president does in 2015 (if Cristina relinquishes power) is to switch the currency back to Roca & Sarmiento and discontinues the Nestor AR$200 for someone like Leloir or the guy who invented the Artificial Heart or even the Irigoyen (Yrigoyen) who was elected twice, but ousted in 1930, but at least they should honor someone who wasn't a thief nor land that is not under their control, nor has been other than at most 79 days over the last 181 YEARS.

Hell, there are more people from Chaco camping out in the Plaza de Mayo right now than there are Argentines on the Falklands. Perhaps honor the disenfranchised indigenous population rather than some rocks 250 miles away from Argentina a a Tuerto who is only marginably better than a Viej(it)a.

Yes of course Napoleon. Changing whoever is in the 50 is so much more important than trivial things like improving poverty, funding education and healthcare, improving transportation... Priority # 1.

It's good to see that you're finally coming around to understanding that the big picture isn't nearly as important as trivial minutia.

Your citizenship will be confirmed shortly.

The title of the threat is "The New 50" not {trivial things like improving poverty, funding education and healthcare, improving transportation.} But you can start that threat if you wish.

Symbolism tells us a lot. Uruguay features artists and writers, rather than milicos, on its banknotes.

We're just as bad mind you:

$1 - George Washington, Slave Holder
$2 - Thomas Jefferson, Slave Holder
$5 - Lincoln, debatable, didn't want voting for freed slaves
$10 - Alexander Hamilton, died in a duel, not very statesmen like
$20 - Andrew Jackson, Trail of tears, among others
$50 - Ulysses S. Grant, Drunk other smaller things
$100 - Ben Franklin had slaves, but came to his senses thankfully

The difference between US(A) and Argentina is that we admit we have done a lot of
messed up things, hell even about 10 years ago we invaded a country for shits and giggles.
However, Argentina still cries about British Imperialism while ignoring the millions in poverty
here and the systematic rape and murder and continued oppression of the surviving Native
Americans.

This sums up my opinion any Argentine opens their mouth about "THE POOR 649 HEROES,
MALVINAS ARGENTINAS, <3 <3 <3 :' ("

That reminds me of this cartoon from the States:

Meanwhile Timmerman claims Britain doesn't want to sit down with him forgetting when he was in London he was invited for a chat with Hague the foreign minister but refused to go because there were 2 scary elected officials of 3000 odd people in the room.

He also claims they'll go to every international forum, conveniently forgetting where the ICJ is after taking Uruguay there over a little pulp mill.

I get the feeling they don't actually want the islands.

Personal militar realizará este año una reconstrucción simbólica del momento del desembarco argentino en el archipiélago, con efectivos de un grupo anfibio que ganará la costa emulando los movimientos de una situación real.

I wonder if German soldiers recreated invading Poland to commemorate WW2

Can someone please tell me why I should give a llama's azz what the 50 looks like? Maybe Dublin was right...

Maybe to understand the political rhetoric of the country you currently live in, among other things? Or at least to not freak out when the ATM issues you a wad of different colored bills? Or, knowing how to recognize the badly printed ones that some restaurants won't take?
