Things To See And Do Around Colonia

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Colonia for a few days next month so I can renew my 90 day visa (I'm American, he's from here). There are plenty of threads on this message board about ATMs and the Buquebus but I was wondering if people had recommendations for things to see and do that might not be as obvious as the historic areas.

I'm thinking hikes, bike rides, any interesting towns nearby that we can get to as a day trip from Colonia itself. Nothing fancy, just maybe a bit off the beaten track.

Ride a bike out to http://www.bodegabernardi.com. Not one of Uruguay's top wineries, but interesting nevertheless, and open on a drop-in basis. They also produce grappa, if you care for that.
