Just wanted to share with you all an event today, Saturday May 31st and tomorrow, Sunday June 1st there will be special screenings of our film Mujeres con Pelotas (Goals for Girls, a story of women with balls) at 1730hs en el cultural san martin (Sarmiento 1551).

COST: $30 pesos per ticket, $20 pesos with student discount. After the screenings, co-directors Ginger Gentile and Gabriel Balanovsky will be available for questions in a nearby venue.

Film Summary: In Argentina, where football is a man´s sport, a group of young women from the infamous Villa 31 shantytown in Buenos Aires fight to form their own team. With courage they overcome many obstacles until they realize their dream of competing in the Homeless World Cup in Brazil. Using this story as a starting point, “Goals for Girls: A story of women with balls” investigates the ignored world of women´s football in Argentina. These players have to fight on and off the field to ensure that the words of the president of FIFA come true: “the future of football belongs to women”.

What the English language press has to say:
“The film also makes its strongest point when it allows the football to do the talking. Extended montages of ‘Las Aliadas’ training are a real highlight: here, away from the multitude of opinions and arguments of others about their validity as footballers, the girls are allowed to get on with what they enjoy most . . . After all, giving them the opportunity to play football is what this is all about, and watching them is perhaps the most effective way to change sexist attitudes — one goal at a time.” - Argentina Independent http://www.argentinaindependent.com/the-arts/film-culture/out-now-mujeres-con-pelotas/

“After watching Mujeres con pelotas, which in Spanish translates literally as “women with balls,” you’ll realize that women do certainly have the balls to struggle for something that rightfully belongs to them. . . Mujeres con pelotas is a skillfully shot documentary that scores big time when it comes to addressing a largely ignored theme that could use much more exposure.” –Buenos Aires Herald http://www.buenosairesherald.com/article/158885/women-with-balls-scores-big-time-onscreen-

The trailer was great and I hope the screenings were a success. Wish I'd been there to attend. If it's any consolation to the girls, women's hockey was once considered as a joke (at best) in Canada. But not anymore. :)
