Or those shady looking characters who shake you down for cash. Took a visiting friend for the ubiquitous wander around La Boca on Saturday, handed the trapito 20 pesos only to be told the "price" was 25.

Macri wants to ban them in the city, the FpV block want to legalise them.

1. Why do we need to ban illegal extortion in a public place. Pay me or you car gets damaged is the real message behind the smiles. Mostly these guys are low ranking members of the barra bravas.

2. How the hell are they going to be legalised? Will there be a standard price?.. a receipt ? I can see that going over well with the barra brava when someone tries to tell them that when there is a concert on they can't ask for a few hundred pesos nr La Monumental. Will they be obliged to report car crime..how? How will they deter it?

If this is the beginning of an attempt to remove the barra bravas from their position of influence I applaud it, but it would end up in violence on the street.

Interesting...let's see.

Why doesn't the city install parking meters on these spots, and then they can distribute that money to the trapitos if they are so inclined.

How do people deal with each other directly, without knowing the rules of the game.

Today I was extremely annoyed by this. I went parked around the jardin japones to visit a client. I could have parked in Paseo al Corta for two hours for free, but I knew my visit would take around 2 hours and 15 minutes, which would mean I would have to pay 12 pesos. I intentionally parked in the Jardin Japones to avoid the charge. I get out of the car, and the guy tells me… 20 pesos. Grrrr. I gave him 10. Then when I came back he was gone.

Just keep driving till you find a block with no trapito there/ also my boyfriend will always pay them when we are leaving not when we first get there and the most we've ever given is like 10 pesos ad they just take what they get I don't think we've ever been told to pay a set price

Sure, invest in the subte , you could refurbish an old line and get stick for getting rid of the old trains, you could open new stations amd get heat from the unions because you aint on team peron (or are we believing the spiel about working conditions that changes every week) you could clear the buses from the main city arteries and listen to rubbish about how buses nearer the kerbside is better environmentally, ....you could implement new bins and a pilot recycling scheme only for the cartoneros to sh1t all over it by tearing them apart....and then, only then you could take on extortion rackets in the form of trapitos to be told they are just trying to make a living...man.

Sure you could even launch the cities first cycle paths and bike scheme, increasing its scope after a successful pilot.

When socialism implements these solutions tis grand, when macri does it he is anti-union, anti-environment and whatever else gets lobbed at him. Even if he tries to increase the subte ticket in line with inflation, he is crucified, sure 3.50 is less than the price of an alfajor, it is roughly 1/3 of the price of a coffee, a cheap coffee! In blue terms it is less than 40 cents, in govt crazy cambio terms it is still less than 60c ....robbery huh.

In Santiago, the Metro costs two to three times the official or blue rate, and yet it's spotless, packed with passengers, and rapidly expanding its coverage of Gran Santiago.
