Trapitos

Sure, invest in the subte , you could refurbish an old line and get stick for getting rid of the old trains, you could open new stations amd get heat from the unions because you aint on team peron (or are we believing the spiel about working conditions that changes every week) you could clear the buses from the main city arteries and listen to rubbish about how buses nearer the kerbside is better environmentally, ....you could implement new bins and a pilot recycling scheme only for the cartoneros to sh1t all over it by tearing them apart....and then, only then you could take on extortion rackets in the form of trapitos to be told they are just trying to make a living...man.

Sure you could even launch the cities first cycle paths and bike scheme, increasing its scope after a successful pilot.

When socialism implements these solutions tis grand, when macri does it he is anti-union, anti-environment and whatever else gets lobbed at him. Even if he tries to increase the subte ticket in line with inflation, he is crucified, sure 3.50 is less than the price of an alfajor, it is roughly 1/3 of the price of a coffee, a cheap coffee! In blue terms it is less than 40 cents, in govt crazy cambio terms it is still less than 60c ....robbery huh.

I don't know too much about BA politics, but Dublin, you get my vote on the core issue: "Trapitos & Parking".
For me, subte is sube (and it stands tall compared to Toronto subway for example in every respect) and parking is parking.
To solve trapitos u ban private cars? Did I read this correctly?

Subway here is unbelievable ... how many lines .. 7 or 8? how many stations each line? Good ol' Toronto subway has 2 lines (called the ROCKET), and most of the stations are above ground once you leave the downtown core. Your house will go up in value by a US$100,000 if on the subway (that is how scarce it is). They added 2 new stations in a span of 40 years. Here .. 3 or 4 new stations are added every single year.
In 2005 the fare here was 1/8 that in TO. I don't know how it compares now.

Downtown now is really electric ... like someone said .... and it is all cause of Macri ... but that is all I know about him.
On another topic, just could u IMAGINE if this city was located on the Ocean where Mar Del Plata is?
Would've been deadly.

Just keep driving till you find a block with no trapito there/ also my boyfriend will always pay them when we are leaving not when we first get there and the most we've ever given is like 10 pesos ad they just take what they get I don't think we've ever been told to pay a set price

It will happen to you. The other day a Trapito boldly told me: 30 pesos to park here. I don't have a problem giving some money to trapitos, but I do have a problem when they start charging me money like they own the street. And in that area over close to Libertador and Salguero, there is no parking. You have to park over by the Jardin Japones, so there was no other place to park.

I know a guy who used to live in Palermo... he has taken off to the province now for love, but outside his apartment in palermo the trapitos arrived (they haven't always been so virulent and agressive) and started demanding money. He told them he lived there and he couldn't be paying them every day...give them a few hundred asnd said that's that...i live here and no more money.

Result, car windows smashed and car scratched.

Just everyday guys making a living you see.

Ps...BsAs needs creative policing solutions which do not rely on manpower. Needs lots of security cameras,....cue cries of big brother etc..but if the net effect is increased security I am all for it, if you got nothing to hide you have no issue.

I often have this argument with Adri as to whether we should pay a trapito.
If their attitude stinks I generally remind her that it's extortion, but she takes pity on them, not to mention a fear of having the car 'keyed'.
If I'm well oiled after a meal out, I'll pay anyone.

Talk to Massa. He gave birth to security cameras.

When I saw this article yesterday http://www.lanacion.com.ar/1635684-legisladora-kirchnerista-se-opone-a-la-prohibicion-de-los-trapitos

It really hacked me off. I mean to say that wanting to prevent the wide spread intimidation and extortion of the populace is "authoritarian and discriminatory" is incredible. How did this person get elected?

ohhh trapitos! i can't stand them! I feel like i spend so much complaining about them!!! haha! but seriously they are such a pain the in the ass!
like i had posted before, i went to meet friends in palermo hollywood, super early 9ish, and i found a parking close but the trapito wanted me to pay 30 pesos! i was like, no way, I'm going for one hour tops to meet friends, I'm pregnant, i purposely looked for a parking spot close by and its super early, by 10pm you can have the spot back, and i will tip you when i leave! he was like "its better if you just leave and find a new parking if you are not going to pay the 30pesos" meaning, leave or i will vandalize your car! apparently trapitos dont have a soft spot for pregnant woman!!!!!
anyways, i left and told him as i was leaving that he's an asshole.
they should really do something about it, they are multiplying and getting worse everyday!
from what i got from the article, maybe there is hope??????

Nope, Macri wants it but doesn't have an absolute majority as far as I know in the city congress, he'll need someone to vote with him. I think they won't. We'll remain with one side saying make them illegal (they already are?) vs legalize them. The proposal to legalize them will never have any detail around the practicalities as it will never happen, no majority support.

Effectively it's a soundbite which won't take hold either way.

Much simpler solution (even simpler than parking meters).
If they want to legalize trapitos fine.
Just stick out a post with the rate.
Just spell out the rules of the game.
Don't leave me alone to negotiate my own ransom .
