Tucker Carlson in Buenos Aires

It's truly heartwarming to see someone from the Land of the Free to attack a journalist simply for sharing his views. Clearly a stellar embodiment of the nation's founding principles.
Some of us tend not to deal kindly with Russian apologists.

He was fired from the Fox News because of the way he presented the Ukranian conflict, which was deemed inconvenient by the people in charge.

He was fired from Fox News after his lies cost the network a whopping $787 million settlement in the Dominion voting machine company's defamation lawsuit.

He may be around for a long time, but not in a well-paying prestigious job.

When public figures are done for in their home country, they tour Latin America where anyone from the US (or Europe) is treated as a guru.

In this case, being American is enough to get Carlson attention. The locals don't know he's been kicked out of Fox News, and discredited.
Discredited? How does that happen when one has no credibility to begin with?

thanks “on the brink”. you are correct, it had nothing to do with ukraine. ever heard the phase” one lies and other swears to it makes it legit” that was trump and tucker carlson. if you like trump you will like tucker. nothing wrong with that. be aware it creates divisiceness. one interview is a pretty small sample size. hopefully he stays in argentina.

Funny- I cant think of a single Argentine friend of mine that thinks Milei is exactly what Argentina needs.
I think that less than one third of the vote is hardly what "we all " think.
I know almost no expats- all my friends are Argentine- and they range from 20 to 80 in age, and include doctors, lawyers, escribanos, architects, choreographers, owners of retail stores, book designers, photographers, chefs and restaurant owners, psychologists, writers, recording engineers, musicians, artists, clothing designers, industrial designers, university professors, furniture builders, drag queens, maté growers, blacksmiths, and even a guy who has a machine shop.
Nobody I have talked to supports Milei.
I am not in BA right now, and I am sure, when I am, I will find various taxistas and kiosco owners who do like Milei, but in general, I would say support for his policies is far from universal.
Man, so I'm like a weirdo attorney and wild man business person. But, I really do appreciate your super thoughtful leftist takes that you contribute here. I don't really agree with you usually, but I genuinely appreciate your perspectives.

That said, Milei is a megastar in Miami and with people I know in Argentina. And I'm pretty sure he'll win. Like, the governing class has just discredited itself with the young people in a totally fundamental way - as Milei himself said, to paraphrase: 'you know, 100 years of pure failure, yeah, you're going to get me.'

On page one I saw something about 'attacking a journalist simply for sharing his views,' and was going to reply, but I figured I'd read through the rest of the thread before doing so. And then I came across a post asking about Tucker Carlson; "Discredited?.... Who discredited him." So I thought I'd address both statements as a two-fer and only by addressing the posts and not any messengers and primarily with documented facts/court case to make the point (before following with a bit of personal opinion).

"Who discredited him?" That's beyond easy. And it's not by anyone supposedly attacking a "journalist" like Carlson simply for sharing his views, some leftist Carlson hater, or even your run of the mill 'radical Marxist Socialist' (yawn), but almost surprisingly (though not really) by the very the attorneys who represented Carlson's most recent employer, FOX News, in a civil suit brought against the network for slander related to Carlson's "journalism," and a federal judge who is a Trump appointee. FOX lawyers are the ones responsible for throwing Carlson's "credibility" under the bus by basing their case on his reputation and the premise that Carlson, in fact, does not actually have any credibility - and the judge agreed.

According to Business Insider (25 Sept. 2020):

A federal judge on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit against Fox News after lawyers for the network argued that no "reasonable viewer" would take the network's primetime star Tucker Carlson seriously.

The network asked a judge to dismiss the case, arguing that "Carlson's statements were not statements of fact and that she failed adequately to allege actual malice."

I must admit, I am not familiar with the details of the lawsuit.

So, the lawyers who represented Fox News in their defense strategy argued that Carson has no credibility. Based on the fact that they decided to settle anyway, it seems that this argument was not very successful.

everybody feels the inflation. Many of my friends in the art and music worlds live on five hundred US a month. No, I dont know many people who live in Villa 31, but I would hardly call all these people "bourgeoisie".
My impression was that many of the rich were in favor of Milei- they certainly supported Macri.
my friends range in age, income, and barrio. But I guess they are all "liberal", certainly by US standards.
$500 USD a month is a good salary in Argentinan nowadays
