We also bought a converter, one of about 180$, which didn't work. We got another one, about 500$, we can watch tv over the converter : we now have to work with a remote control with 10 buttons and cannot use our tv remote control. With this the Bose doesn't work. The quality of the image is terrible. So no one really watches tv, only to watch the DVD's we bought in Europe which we all saw 100 times.

Our TV is a brand new HD model, PAL.

We are tired of looking for solutions, and my teenage kids are dying to see a good movie.... that's why I am looking for an expert. The electricians we know are good men but have never heard of PAL tv and have never seen a Bose system...

Try the suggestions given you here on the DVD player. If that doesn't work, find a small electronics store, anybody with a knowledge of DVD players should be able to fix the problem.

I'm a little confused (what else is new). If I buy a new TV in the US will it work in AR? Do I have to look for special Pal, Pal 4, etc. receiver specs? What is in the US and what is in AR? Does having a digital TV cable input make the difference?
Thanks, Tom

There are two basic standards for TV signals in the world, one is PAL used in Argentina, Europe etc., the other is NTSC used in
North America, parts of Asia, and most of South America.

Your cable companies signal will be the PAL standard and you would need a converter if your U.S. TV is NTSC standard only, some sets you buy today will accept either standard. The only exception in Argentina is DirectTV which delivers it signal NTSC, they provide a converter to switch the signal to PAL. In other words if you had a U.S. purchased TV accepting only NTSC signal you could still use it here without any kind of converter if you have DirectTV.

I was in contact with a Sony dealer :
He told me that it is imposible to convert PAL-N to PAL without a huge loss of quality. He does not recommend that. (that is what I have now : a converter with a very bad quality).

He said NTSC does not really have a problem because you can get direct tv and they have NTSC signal.

I am still hoping this man is wrong, so in case someone does know how to solve the problem : I am waiting for you!!!:D

This is your problem, I believe. I am an electrician, have been for nearly forty years and I would not be able to sort your problem. You need a TV specialist. I can't help you there I am afraid, but I would stop throwing money at converters if the first one did not work.
Go to a store that sells TVs and ask who does their repairs, often they are glad of some extra work.
