Hi,

I've heard horrifying stories about stores that offer to unblock cell phones from abroad (i.e., stealing parts, returning an older model, etc). Can anyone recommend a reliable store/technician to unblock an Iphone? Thanks!

I wouldn't waste any time with these company's that offer jailbreak/unlock services. There are two places to go.

This is the bible of iphone hacking: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

This is a step by step guide: http://gizmodo.com/5302123/jailbreak-and-unlock-iphone-30/gallery/

PM if you have issues. It should be noted that if you have the latest firmware on your phone it is too late and there is nothing you can do until they release something that can deal with the new baseboard. If you haven't done this simply follow the gizmodo step by step guide and you should have great results. I've done this personally to several phones with no issues.

I just went through this on a trip to miami. go to http://blackra1n.com/
I used this step by step guide http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=5885
there is no need to pay any company that says they do it for a fee. After using the free software you can give a donation to Blackra1n

I figured out on my own a trick to get it to work in the US with AT&T prepaid so if anyone wants to know that hit me up!

Good luck let me know how it goes!

Firmwares are not a problem since the 3.1.3 can be jailbroken now, problem is the new bootrom.

Do you know if you have a "MC" model or not ? (if MC, unlock impossible)

Well, let us know a bit more about the model of your iphone (3G 3GS ?) and we'll help you
