Warning About Tango Teacher "tango Piola"

That is even truer at Mariposita (I don't like the technique class there at all). Few corrections, lots of bad posture.
Not being a woman, I have no first hand info.

I don't want to argue. Only a teacher who is dancing with me one-on-one can feel the subtle postural adjustments. I know this from lots and lots of personal experience. As a follower.
Remember we are talking about a beginner who has to learn to walk, make 8 and all this without breacking the back of the man.

Well, you didn`t understand how does it works. No offense, you are a foreigner.

They ignore the newbies. They are not there for the money so they do not give a s…t.

If you continue going and they see that you try hard, you improve and you have some talent, one time she is going to correct you something. If you do not correct it right away, she is never going to correct you again. As soon as you add to your dancing her corrections, she is going to continue correcting you. Simple like that.

An this people really know what they are talking about.

To take private classes with them makes sense, but I do not think they are going to do it with a begginer. They are very generous with their knowledge but they do not waste their time neither.

The big deal in BA is to learn with people with decades of experience.

I forgot to mention the practica of Parejita but she said she was just learning.

I do not know if Bravo is still alive, but that guy invented many of the giros we know.

Well, this quickly degenerated. I don't want to comment on things that no one else will care about and that don't relate to the original post.

But Bajo_Cero, just to correct what you think I said or what you are assuming about me:

-- I'm not a teacher and I don't have a partner who is a teacher. In fact, I don't have a partner.

-- I don't enjoy dancing in NYC or anywhere else in the U.S. That was my point. You can get lots of practice time at milongas, but if you haven't been taught correctly, you won't dance well. As you say, in most places outside of Buenos Aires they are just doing figures without connection to each other or the music. You are reinforcing my point. Good teachers make the difference.

-- If you say that Rosa and Carlos "don't give a sh**t" about the newbie foreigners, why are you recommending them to a newbie foreigner?
By the way, my point wasn't about Rosa ignoring me. Even if you are her favorite student, she can't spend more than a few minutes with you if you are part of a large group of women.

-- I know many straight men who are studying the follower's role -- to deepen their understanding of leading, and also because they enjoy it. I knew that you weren't a follower because you think it can be learned at the milonga.

That's crazy :)

Bajo_Cero, it just occurred to me why we're misunderstanding each other about group classes.

If we talk just about group classes in Buenos Aires, from very good teachers, I'm not saying that you pick up bad habits because they teach you something wrong. But when I learned the basics in those classes, I did what I thought they were asking me to do, and what looked like what they wanted, but I was doing most things wrong. The teachers can only focus on each person for a limited time, so I kept on building on my mistakes. Repeating them until they were incorporated into my body.

Sylvie, as you said, seems we agree the most.

I do not like group clases, I almost didn't have them because they normally show steps. This is useless. And for women is even worst.

Most of the clases I took were at the Sunderland of Bohemios de la Boca. Both were about walking and embrace. I also took clases at El Beso where they teach you social dance.

Then I stop taking clases and I went to El Beso just to watch. After 3 months of just watching I started to dance, simple but prolix.

My grandpa was a milonguero and he used to say, when I was a child, that I should avoid the b....hit and just walk and embrace. So, I followed his advice.

I recommended tha Rosita class because it is one of the best places to go where nobody is going to missbehave because the place is not only good for learning but also family friendly.

I saw many girls improving very fast at that class and, now she know how does it works, easier for her.

The class is only 5% for a begginer. The other 95% should happend at home practizing the giros with a chair and walking alone doing ochos. The class should be only for learning the technique exercices.

What a Bummer , I had a similiar experience I took private lessons for a year , first with a woman , but woman cannot teach man how to dance a tango . So I hired a profesional Tango teacher , homosexual I am hetero i dont care if someone is Homosexual , great teacher, especially old school spicy milonga style , but as months past by he started to generate feelings for me . I warned him a few times , and then once he tried to kiss me on the lips , I gave him a headbutt on the nose i broke his nose . He never tried again, we still practice tango .

Perhaps you over reacted.
It is the catholic culture. If you say no but you stay, it means try again.
So, the best advice is that you have to say no and behave like a no, it means, to stop taking classes with that person. Otherwise you are going to be missunderstood.

No means yes or maybe in Catholic culture? Explains a lot.

I agree that continuing to go is kind of a conflicting signal, but really no should be enough just the once.
