You didn't expect the "thinker" to actually think before posting, did you?

LOL Porteno = My wifes cousins new boy friend from BA or a Porteno as they call them here. I figured it was a known term I guess not. It general it seems to be used around here and by the Argentinians from the provinces in reference to people from BA that are not very likable.

I never really understood why people loathed them so much until the past week. This guy was driving me nuts. I have never experienced anyone so rude in my life to be honest. But thank God it is over.
Per my conversations in this neck of woods Porteno is typically used in reference to someone from BA that is not very likable or has bad manners. There are lots of excellent Argies around too no doubt.
And we all know that words are used differently in different regions or places. Here Porteno basically means well lets not go there and the Uruguayan peeps don't use it that way in front of BA Argies. Actually the the peeps in Uruguay do not like the peeps from BA generally speaking. But they do like Argies from the Provinces. If you are a black man and use the N word it is one thing but if you are white and use the N word well you know.
I love it when a poster turns into a parody of themselves.
In another thread he's already explained to us that apparently Uruguayans use the word porteño as a general insult. I still think he's misunderstanding the use, but he's insistent that it is just a general insult.
jI thought Uruguayans used the word Argentino as a general insult.![]()
Uruguayans are resentful with porteños, as every people are with someone who belongs to a big city. It is exactly the same in the interior. They have this complex of inferiority or they feel porteños have this complex of superiority (not the same but the product is the same: el complejo del petiso). So they dislike porteños, their pace of life (no siesta), their money, arrogance, etc.
It happens in every country I guess, in the US with the newyorkers, in France with parisians, etc
