Well So Much For The China Deal

Uruguayans are resentful with porteños, as every people are with someone who belongs to a big city. It is exactly the same in the interior. They have this complex of inferiority or they feel porteños have this complex of superiority (not the same but the product is the same: el complejo del petiso). So they dislike porteños, their pace of life (no siesta), their money, arrogance, etc.

It happens in every country I guess, in the US with the newyorkers, in France with parisians, etc

Does this apply when your neighbors septic tank is over flowing all the time and you get tired of the of your neighborhood smelling like sewer?

China will Invest US$10 bn in infrastructure in Eastern European countries strapped for funds...! So nothing unusual with Argie Deals!! Where 13 % of China's investment goes to LATAM.

One of the Chinese financed projects in Serbia was a major bridge over the Docenevic River?? well the Chinese did the Engineering the design and Construction, imported all the ready made components, as well as Chinese Labor.

When I was a few years ago in the middle of Mali and Burkina Faso(along with Al Qaeda:-( ) There was nothing except a new mosque being built and Chinese factories with only Chinese workers! And that's what Argentina and nations want?? It's like sleeping with the enemy!

K has a plan for the Chinese invasion. Will open gambling casinos in close proximity to Chinese construction/manufacturing sites, no brainer: Macao.

Why China is the enemy of Argentina ? It brings the dollars and tech to Argentina, kinda like what US did to China 20 years ago. Without this, Argentina is even more hopeless.
Argentina does not give 1 inch of land to China, doesn't open market to China. All China did is to give big Chinese companies some business and Chinese government is funding the project with great term for the poor government of Argentina, and when things get worse, Argentina does not even have to pay China. it is like the sub -prime mortgage in US a few years ago, China is the careless lender, and Argentina is deadbeat borrower, who is the victim here ?

Maybe you're missing the part where Chinese workers (at all levels) will displace Argentine workers, Chinese products will in large part be imported here to do the construction, and so on. I wonder how the Argentine workers will feel about that...well, in the article I posted previously the construction workers and owners of those companies are pretty pissed off.

That's just the tip of the iceberg we can see.

Not that they are a direct enemy, but Cristina bitches about colonialism and the US taking advantage of Argentina, and yet invites the Chinese in on these terms while one of her ministers is saying "oh, but the agreement that China made with other countries doesn't mean the same agreement will be enacted the same here."

Cracks me up that people can be so anti-US and Europe (at least as regards to policies such as keeping to the law and agreements like with the "vultures" and such) but think that a country like China will just sit back and take it up the rear with no repercussions, like China is some kind of stupid saint or something.

It is a business decision. Both countries are supposed to benefit from it.

When Huawei lays down the network for Argentina, of course they have the engineers from China to do it, together with Movistars engineers. How Argentine employees feel won't make any difference. Chinese engineers are not replacing the Argentina engineers, they set it up and leave. As for the Chinese farmers who do the job in Africa, it's a different story. it's more likely the Chinese immigrate to there and live there. More than 50% of the employees in Silicon are not US born, they all become residents of California, eventually become US citizen. How do Americans feel about that ? It takes away of the jobs of a few local kids in Santa Clara. But Silicon Valley is the engine of US economy, without it, US will loose 70% of its high tech. It attracts all the smart and hard working people from all over the world, and makes US a more powerful country. It's so diversified, NO other country has an area like that, no other can duplicate Silicon Valley because other countries do not allow tech workers to come and leave easily like in Silicon Valley. Argentina should take it easy, not worry about the Chinese or other people taking their jobs, the more they close their door, the more likely they will lose their pants, more likely foreigners will invade and replace them.
Open the door and do business with other countries, is the best way to make Argentina stronger and the best way to protect the life style of Agentines and enjoy their asasdos and lomos daily, not arroz. :)

Essentially, China is setting up a mercantile relationship with Argentina, which has excluded itself from the credit to trade anywhere else and will only be able to purchase goods from the company store, with the company's scrip.

Buenos Aires will become the local administrative center for Chinese commerce.

What had the construction workers pissed off is that China is going to import ALL workers, as they have done in other countries. this means down to the guys who dig the ditches up to the managers who oversee the projects and the engineers and architects who design them. And these workers will not be subject to (at least) Argentine labor laws. Some of the "secret clauses" of the agreement came out a few weeks ago, and the response from one government official was "oh, but that won't happen to us".

It's one thing to bring specialists, it's another to bring import material and workers of all levels from China, which would indeed displace Argentine workers.

Argentina has had the opportunity to do business with many countries but they seem to keep screwing up those relations. They seem to think they will have a better chance with China, as Ajo mentions in more of a mercantile relationship, than actually doing business with the rest of the world..

Take a look at how China is colonizing other poor countries in Africa and Asia and other places (now even Venezuela perhaps). What will be interesting is to see how it ends up, if Argentina will screw China like they do their own populations and other people who invest in the country.

I guarantee you the intent on China's part is not send a few engineers over from China to get things set up and then leave.

You worry too much. The new deal is in technology, nuclear energy, military and soy beans. No Chinese will come here to dig the trenches on the streets of BsAs. You probably do not know, like the Japanese second generation after the world war II, the new Chinese generation is not interested in physical work, as the only child in the family, the parents give the kid everything. The massive manufactures in coastal China are moved to other South Asian countries. There is a shortage of labor. Like in US and Argentina, it's very hard to find a maid now, even for $1000 us a month, in big cities. You do see more Chinese in Argentina. The small market owners are not part of China trading deal. Those people saved some hard earned money, just to come here to look for better opportunities. just like the Italians and Spanish, and Japanese who came to South America 100 years ago. Chileans already own Discos and Jumbos, how much harm it will do if Chinese own a few small markets. Argie government controls the total amount immigrants, Chinese will not take over Argentina.
Taiwan is always afraid that the mainland Chinese will stay in TW and take over people's jobs. The result is that Taiwan is ridding on Chinese economy and no mainland people really work there.

I am not a fan of CFK. But at least Argentina got a few deals done with China, so there is $ on the streets and circulation, and 100 years trains get replaced, people can buy cell accessories, and every one can have a cell phone. It's not wrong to have business between Argentina and China, it's wrong that Argentina makes it hard to do business. Chinese business people feel it's hard like hell to do business in Argentina, that's why Chinese government has to fund the project to make a deal happen, like Japanese did in the 80s. Other countries have so many problems, that they just do not and can not justify to do business in Argentina. Once/if China becomes democratic, the people in China will not approve government to waste money on this black hole projects in South America. The economic crisis will hit China pretty soon, they will not be able to "colony "Argentina.
