What does it cost to have a baby in a private hospital, uninsured?

Make sure that it’s a least risk birth. And then an average private hospital will be fine you don’t need to go to Los Arcos. If it’s a complicated delivery, then don’t go for private in Argentina.

I'm still not understanding, sorry. You're saying Russians went to Los Arcos, the same hospital your wife delivered at, but paid OPO $3000 USD for everything?
3000 for a normal birth. Check in, deliver and leave the next day or the day after.

If I was you, I would get private insurance, even though you have to pay 1 year upfront, because that would be the same as paying out of pocket anyway. The difference is that if there is any kind of complications during pregnancy, delivery or after birth you and your baby will be covered 100%. Even if everything goes as expected, which is most cases, baby will need checkups, vaccines, follow ups, etc and it will all be taken care of. Of course you can deliver at a public hospital, however I am not sure you will feel comfortable as a newcomer in a room shared with 2-4 other women, and their families, having to provide your own sheets, diapers, pads, towels, etc. Family will have to assist with any needs ( bathroom, bathing, etc ) and in this case it will have to be a female. You will still get care, but most likely no epidural, etc.
