I was trying to remember how low the price of eggs was in 2007. But I can't access the prices area of the inflacion verdadera website. The layout has changed, it looks like they've done away with that whole section. Maybe it's against the ley...

The 30 pack in my neighborhood (Junin b/n Viamonte & Tucuman) back in 2008 was AR$9 at my favorite Fruit & Veggie stand.

Now, 2012, the price is around AR$20 to AR$25.

Napoleon ..Thanks for your data, it confirms my Theory that to have the same buying power as in 2008 we need the dollar at AR$7.5 minimum.:D

AR$22,50 Avg./AR$9 = 2.5 or 3,0 (dollar rate 2008?) x 2.5 = 7.5 aprox.

Criteria does not apply for lettuce then $2 now $20 per Kilo:eek:

When I moved here at the end of 2006, half a dozen eggs cost maximum 60 centavos. It might even have been 40 centavos. That's what I wanted to check on the site, but it seems to have been castrated.

I think that does come close to the number, but I think in some cases it would need to be higher. When I first came here in 2008, the peso was 3.15 to the dollar, and Choripan in La Costanera was 3 pesos...now the same chori is 16 pesos and the dollar would need to be 16:1 to make up for the difference.

Wow, the prices are more f'ed up than I initially thought.

Anyone, who earns in pesos, know if the salaries have kept up to a level?

I agree with your criteria of AR$15:1USD at least ..!! According to the Local Mc Economics, the small ice cream cone was AR$1 in 2008 now its AR$5:(

Nope! Not at all! If you are a union protected worker or work for an international corp, salaries have kept up someeeewhat. However, if you aren't, then raises haven't even come close. I've been getting a more or less annual payrise of 10% since 2009 (except for one year when we got 0!) and even that increase has been a struggle for my company (that can't really increase their prices much more without risking pricing themselves out of the intl market and certainly without looking ridiculous!). I think the problem that a lot of people like myself (university qualified professionals with years of experience) are having is that those working in lower level positions are making more (and often significantly more) than a lot of skilled professionals. Also, whenever we need to get someone new onboard, we have to offer the "going rate" or we just can't get anyone. This means that in our case, we've got high level professionals earning a few hundred pesos more than their assistants! It certainly doesn't promote loyalty to companies whatsoever and is terrible for morale...
