If you are a permanent resident foreigner and you leave Argentina permanently are you supposed to give up your DNI? If so, how?

As far as I know, permanent residency expires two years after the "last" time you set foot on Argentine soil, and a DNI card "expires" fifteen years after the date it was first issued or renewed.

Anyone who had permanent residency and returns to Argentina after a two year absence will be admitted as a tourist. I've never heard of a requirement to turn in the DNI card at any point.
