I went to a traumatologo at the Hospital Italiano (their Belgrano location), had an X-ray and was told to get an MRI and come back next week. The doctor said I didn't have to do it at the hospital, I could get it at any diagnostic center. I am paying out of pocket so to me it doesn't really matter where I do it.

Any ideas where to do this? I live outside the city so somewhere that is easy to get to (either downtown or south of the city, like Canning or somewhere like that) and easy to get an appointment.

A few years ago, I had really good service at the Clínica Fleni (http://www.fleni.org.ar/contenido2/151/1/BELGRANO), which I would recommend wholeheartedly.

i have had the open mri at Diagnositico Maipu in Vincente Lopez (Maipu 1668)
the open is a "donut" and so you are not squished like a claustrophobic sausage.

damn my food metaphores. now i'm hungry.

Can anyone say how much an out-of-pocket MRI costs? I might need to get one for my shoulder at some point.

(sorry to resurrect a zombie topic!)

Edited to add...

please disregard. just found my answer in another thread...

A year ago I had an MRI in Montegrande (Clínica Montegrande, south of BsAs) and it was only 600 pesos, but that was very, very cheap. In the city, a year ago, I was quoted around 1200 (I didn't have insurance then) so it is probably more now. I saw a spinal specialist at the Hospital Italiano, he was OK but I don't remember his name. The Hospital Italiano has a Guardia de Traumotología in Belgrano, they saw me very quickly (it was polo related, from your user name I am guessing maybe yours is too?)

The fastest is usually to go to one of those imaging centers, like Enrique Rossi, and then take those images to the doctor.

The cost of an specific MRI depends on the part of your body that is going to be scanned. You can ask by phone or email at different places, it is important the availability of each place to have the MRI.
