Who is Silvina Batakis, the newly appointed National Minister of Economy?

We might be getting another cepo, this time on tourism:

In the midst of the lack of dollars, she said that the right to travel "collides" with the generation of jobs and affirmed that all measures will be taken so that the reserves are turned over to production.

“The right to travel collides with the generation of jobs”,indicated the Minister of Economy when asked if there would be more restrictions to access dollars for tourism. "The dollar is a scarce resource and those dollars have to be available to expand the productive matrix," she said.

"When you make purchases abroad and they should have gone to the productive sector, you are damaging the future of Argentines," she said. Then she clarified: “All people have the right to vacations, but we have to manage the reserves for the country to grow. And we are going to take all the measures so that these reserves are poured into the productive sectors.”

Of course she is a scapegoat. Anyone who is appointed minister of the economy in the midst of such a crisis is. She knows that. She also knows it will open doors for the rest of her life.

Five years from now she may well be working for the IMF or WB, and pulling down a huge salary with massive perks.

Even here this is annoying. I have K acquaintances literally asked me "If you subscribe to Marxist philosophies why do you hate Cristina and Alberto? Why waste a vote on Myriam Bregman"

Because:

Milei's whole shtick has this been too; "Cultural Marxism", "Kommunism", etc. Some of his fans said the quiet part out loud can called Bregman a "Jewish Bolshevik" The AMIA was pretty quiet at first because she's not a member of PRO, until people started asking them for a response.

But anyways, back to Batakis; she's got a pulse so that's good enough for the Ks. Damned if she does, damned if she doesn't, it's a thankless job however you look at it.

Here's an amusing thought for you - what if Milei and Cristina are secretly working together, and laughing their asses off at the whole circus??

aka, we can't pay for all these social plans if people keep spending outside the country.

never mind your freedoms, just submit to your dear leader and our system and we will make it all better!

This doesn't make sense. They don't need dollars to pay the social plans; those are paid in pesos. They need dollars to pay off the IMF, and that's a debt contracted by Macri. Your ideology is blinding you to logic.

As dollars are so scarce it will be interesting to see if AF signs the deal to buy a new jet for himself worth $22m, paid in dollars and paid to a vendor abroad, because simply chartering an Aerolineas plane as he has been doing to date is not prestigious enough (despite paying Argentina US$700m+ per year in subsidies to cover its inflated and unsustainable operating costs)

Meanwhile Mario Ishii has been enjoying some pool time in Miami, of course also paid in dollars.

Perhaps this is what Batakis means by putting dollars to productive purposes….

I stuck my hand into a "productive matrix" once and boy was it a mangled mess.

There is no way he goes through with that plane. That's like political suicide. Unless he already knows he's leaving and might as well on his way out.
