Working like in Argentina/South America?

Any company that hires a person in Argentina (en blanco) sends them for a medical and psychological exam, called "examen preocupacional". This is done by clinics that specialize in "medicina laboral" so that if an employee decides to sue you, they can't say that a particular medical condition was caused by the job you gave them, if it's found to be pre-existing when they are examined. When you go for the mental health part of the exam, they determine if you have OCD, are psychotic, prone to steal / pyromaniac, etc. Once these exams are completed they send a report back to the employer who decides whether you should still be hired. Since the 1st 3 months are a legal probationary period, sometimes this is done while you already start working. If the employer decides to fire you during or at the end of the 3 month probabtionary period, they can do so without any just cause and not have to pay you any indemnization / severance pay. One the 3 month period is up if they fire you without just cause, the employer has to pay the employee 1 month's salary for each year you have worked for them, plus unused vacation, aguinaldo, etc.

Im a business owner in Bsas and Brazil..things are surprisingly coherent across both countries but Brazil has way better system of mandated employee benefits that allow employer tax breaks and more money in the employee's hands.

Funny things to be aware of that you never expect - employees get 15 days vacation after their wedding ie extra vacation..and 2 days off to move house. As an employee it's attarctive..as an employer it's costly...especially in years like 2011 where we seem to have along weekend every other week!

About the psychological tests: In my case, if a company requires it, it means that the job is not good enough (I would rethink that rule if it is a foreign company, just maybe). If the job requires your highly developed skills, and you have them, they don´t need to do such kind of tests, because they should be after your skills, not your "team spirit" or that kind of bs. In my experience, they do those kinds of tests when they know that the job will crunch you under its dumbness, and they want to make sure that you will work anyway, even if a monkey could do it.

About the vacations, hey don't complain! At least is not France! (not yet).
