world cup viewing for the english

I should clarify...the only Pub down down there.

About Messi he is a mess playing for Argentina 5 stars with the Barca, 1/2 star with the national team. Honestly I don't think he will make any difference if playing for the team or not, too many individuals and egos in conflict here, thanks there isn't Juan Roman Riquelme to complicate things.

Squad announced tomorrow for Argentina (and England) .....

Now who wants to join me in watching France get beat by anyone - Bloody Hands of Henry.......

I agree that Riquelme is a disruptive nutcase, but he is a brilliant playmaker responsible for most of Palermo's goals at Boca. The last time that Messi shone for Argentina was when he played in the 2008 Olympics, when he thrived under service from Riquelme.

Apart from having a NO-tactician in Maradona (not switching to positional play when needed, such as against Bolivia) , Argentina is weakest now in the core attacking midfield, altho Guiterrez and De Maria are brilliant (tho inexperienced) choices for the wings. Veron is just not enough. If Messi has to keep going backwards to get the ball, such as he did in the Paraguay match again and again), he will never produce for Argentina. Messi is not a mess, his abuse from lack of strategy is.

If Argentina advances beyond the round of 16, it will be because of individuals shining in spite of their team straightjackets.

Sugar will play almost all of the games in english, and for sure it will be a crowd with more expats than locals.

Argentina is not going to win anyway. Not with that "Fat Drunk Cokehead" running things.
If u go to the Alamo don't tell them ur a Brit and make sure u tip!!

Argentina will make it out of the round of 16 but will lose the next match.
Then there will be riots and this city will burn!!!!!!!!!!!!
Messi wil have 0 goals
Teves 3 goals

Yes, England finally have a real coach, after the dunderheads at the WC's from 1998 on. They should have won in 2002, Erikson was a do-nothing in terms of in-match strategy and tactics, his deer-in-the-headlights act against Brazil was laughable.

Yes, England has a decent chance, but probably it will be ashes-in-the-mouth again. Time for Brazil, Spain or Germany to shine.

nice to see a football debate and some replies... i was hoping to stay away from Alamos and Casabar, as they are traditionally American (call me bad names if im wrong) - Gibraltar i like - and i know there is an English socio in Sugar...

As ever im a pessimistic Englishman, we have the coach, we have the players, but playing outside of europe is always a disaster. Rooney, legend, but traditionally gets red-carded or injured at vital national moments...

As a comment to those who think its unsafe if England beat Argentina - ive been subject to songs about England, but always in good spirit. Its not as if im going to 'popular' in any stadium to rub their noses in it... If we lose to Arg, the suffering will be much much worse...
