Yosi, the Regretful Spy on Prime Video

Perhaps soon someone will have the interest, to watch this 8 hour Series to hear positive or negative comments?

I’ve seen it. An interesting story, even if only loosely based on real events. The production was very well done and certainly had a fair amount of budget behind it. Some interesting actors cast for the roles as well. It does provoke thought about issues such as institutional racism, impunity and corruption in Argentina.

The only parts that really bugged me were:
- the portrayal of Egypt (Sinai was shot in Río Negro...) and Egyptian people (dressed like Afghanis, complimented by dark eye make up and black over-dyed beards and terrible attempts to speak Arabic and even more offensive dancing skills)
- Lighting birthday candles at an orthodox synagogue on Shabbat (as well as a few other “less orthodox” details)
- the OTT antisemitism and constant use of “Russo” “Rusito” and other far more offensive terms etc by the AFP characters, long after their racist prejudices have long since been established and lost their intended “shock” value.

All Perez, Fernandez, Rodriguez, Escudero, etc. in Argentina are converted judes [by force of course] while those who came from Russia kept the religion, culture and identity.
We used to be called rusos for this reason. If the film is political correct, then looks fake.
I’m finishing it and it can be seen.
What is very realistic is how moles infiltrate. I have seen this at University and Civil Rights NGOs.

I finished Season 1 and only just started Season 2. I was very interested in seeing what was shared about the series, the content, etc. I think it’s a good series, as far as I’ve seen. Being an outsider (not Jewish and not Argentine-born), I like to watch a mix of documentaries and historical fiction to see what life was like in different eras from various perspectives. This is engaging and definitely fits the bill of a good series, as I watched the first season over the course of a few of nights. I can’t imagine what those who were affected by the political manipulation must have felt and likely still feel, aside from the horrifying tragedies of the two bombings. Has anyone read the book?

Perhap a 5% of the viewers (Middle East and Hebrew connoisseurs) will notice the parts that bugged you. So, not to worry.

Explain to me please how an article in the Times of Israel about the bombing of the Israeli Embassy and the AMIA has nothing to do with Israel?

You said you're OK with hasbarah meaning PR, so interpret it to mean PR. The sentence works just fine that way.

And you really had to go back 8 years and dig up that quote, from a time when I was brand new to this community? Maybe you should read the rest of that thread. These forums were far more harsh and confrontational then than they are now, and I'd really hate to see that harshness return. I do not wish to quarrel with you. Let's not go there, please.

P.S. I would remind you that I was punished with a 30-day ban for saying what you quoted there, in spite of having apologized. I served my time.
Wow, 30 day ban seems quite harsh.

Different time, different circumstances. The board at that time was quite toxic, with a lot of harsh words flying back & forth. I was part of that problem, as were many others, some still present, others long vanished. No doubt the admin of that time felt it was best for the community as a whole, in order to head off another big blow up. I have no complaints about it.

In any case, that was all 10 years ago. The world has changed, Argentina has changed, I have changed. It's all good.

Fair enough, I thought at a glance the comments you made seemed benign enough so good to understand the context.

Argentina is clearly quite a pro Israel country so I find I need to exercise caution on that subject with my wife's family and friends particularly given where Im from, Ireland wouldn’t be described by most as remotely pro Israel and our views arent completely aligned on some current events.

I have to say though it has been an incredibly enriching and rewarding experience getting to know and make friends with members of the Jewish community in BA given we dont have one where Im from.
