    'garage' sales?

I hope to do that soon-ish...just need to get slightly more organised first (mostly with prices). But why not take an advance sneak peek at some of the items on the blog. :)

    'garage' sales?

Hi, what are those kinds of people called in Spanish, and where would I find one, do you know (or have any rough idea)? Or do you have anyone specific that could be recommended? Thanks.

For those that thought Spanish was/is difficult to learn...

One of my biggest problems in learning any language is that I first have to understand the English words that are being used to describe something! I finally understand well what 'the infinitive' means, but subjunctive or imperfect, or many of those other terms? No. I have also not taken any...

    'garage' sales?

Hey all, I have an apartment load of furniture and various bits and pieces that I need to sell (you can check out some of the things that are available here: mueblesenventa.wordpress.com) and I am wondering if 'garage' sales are at all common here? I.e. the type of thing where people come and...

    mail not reaching the UK

*sigh* Thanks for your info though. Last time I went to the post office I took a thermos of coffee and some facturas, and my husband and I had ourselves a little picnic while we waited. Not the most scenic place to have your morning tea but we made it fun (not least coz people thought we...

    mail not reaching the UK

In the last few months a couple of friends of mine have individually tried sending letters to the UK and neither of them have arrived. One friend sent a very big letter to a relative, the other was a DVD, but with a short homemade film on it; nothing of real value to anyone except the intended...

    Clothing in buenos aires

Next time just buy those three pairs for ten pesos from the dudes on the street. My husband bought some eight months ago and they are still going strong (ish). At least, if they get holes quickly, you won't have spent so much money on them.

    Clothing in buenos aires

When going out dancing, they don't wear much - which should help you with how much weight you will be carrying around ;)

Winter ( The worst is yet to come )

So far the days start out very cold but go up ten degrees during the day. That is amazing. And yeah, I love the blue skies, and the fact that the sun actually still gives heat. Beats a London winter any day (beats a London spring and autumn too, for that matter!) ;)

Completely Incomprehensible - Buying in bulk.

I just shop in my local chino and haven't noticed that bulk purchases cost more. Although in most cases there isn't a reduction for buying in bulk, which to me, is still a bit odd. In some African countries they do they same thing - charge you more for buying a larger quantity.

Argentina ( Highest inflation in the World)

I think I was a bit grouchy before. Sorry about that. However just wanted to add that it is cheaper to buy meat here than in some of the African countries I have lived in! Same with tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, grains, bread and a bunch of other stuff. Not to mention that there is a great...

    Fed Ex here? reliable?

Does anyone have any idea about sending something from here to the UK via Fedex? eg. prices, normal delivery time, reliability? EDIT: ha ha, I just checked FedEx for myself, so no worries. :)

Argentina ( Highest inflation in the World)

I think in this case whoever wrote that article wants to feel sorry for themself. I've lived in London (and around some of the expensive neighbourhoods) and they food there is NOT cheaper than the common food items here (in dollar terms). You CAN get some food very cheap there, but it's...

    Standing out like a tourist...

Hhmm, technically speaking, I think you're right. :) Although I will still say that I haven't noticed more sourpusses here than I have noticed in the UK, for example, so I don't really know that the 'not smiling' thing is really just an Argentine thing.

    Standing out like a tourist...

So, can't agree with these statements. I have heard a fair bit here about Argentines not smiling on the street or with strangers, and I have just found that to be so not true. I tend to smile a lot and it certainly feels like the majority of people smile back. I think saying hi to people I...

A friend of mine who is a taxi driver says he always knows when the person is Australian - they wear sandals and have a water bottle.

Typical Street Scene - Photo I Took Today

If I am waiting around somewhere and there are a bunch of those things around I just rip them all off to pass the time, lol! I've seen a couple of other people do the same - one of them kind of angrily, another kind of like me, she looked like she was just waiting around for someone but then...

Been down here 3 months and got beat-up & mugged

Dang! I was in La Boca with my husband on Sunday afternoon as well! It was only when we got close and we started seeing football fans that we realised the Super Clasiko was on and we started getting a bit nervous. I wouldn't have gone if I had realised the game was on. Fortunately for us we...

    Usama's Funeral Bash

Oh dear. What kind of news/history reports have you been listening to, if you could compare OBL with Hitler? Do you know how many deaths Hitler was responsible for? When you look at actual deaths to civilians, the U.S. Government, along with it's willing friends, would be a far closer...
