Gift for a friend in Brazil

I'm heading to Brazil next week, and I'll be going to a birthday party for a female friend of mine, late 20s in age. Can anyone recommend any gifts I can buy here in Argentina that would be sort of unique? Thanks.

    Tickets at Teatro Colón

Great, thanks. I was about to go ahead and get some box seats, but your points are excellent, and I'd rather be relaxing and enjoying the venue than guarding a seat.

    Tickets at Teatro Colón

Great, thanks! A couple more questions, if you don't mind. How do the Palcos compare with the Orchestra? Price wise they are pretty close. Also, I went through the booking process on a Palco and it had a warning saying that seating was first come / first serve, even though the tickets have a...

    Tickets at Teatro Colón

I was thinking about seeing an opera while in BsAs this time. After frequenting the Teatro Colón site though, it looks like certain sections of seats are for women only or for men only. Just curious what the motivation is for this? I'm a bit hesitant to buy some tickets because I'm worried...

    How to watch US TV

I don't have a solution either, but usually you can torrent the shows you want 24 hours after they air (for the popular ones). It does take a bit of work though. Otherwise some type of router/VPN solution and a TV/show provider back in the US is probably the way to go. But without a slingbox...

    Tennis Lessons

Sure, that would be great. There are those courts in Palermo Soho I wouldn't mind trying out. If you want to meet someday just to rally the ball around, that would be cool. I'm sure I have to relearn how to hit the ball and everything, so it might be a bit painful. But would be fun I think.

    Tennis Lessons

I'm in Palermo Soho, and I understand there are some courts nearby on Costa Rica? Anyone have any experience playing or taking lessons there? I haven't played in about ten years (I was never any good), but I wouldn't mind taking some refresher lessons just to get back into it. Thanks.

Buying dollars legally gets even harder now

Probably still better than losing the 40% or so over the course of a year if you left it in Argentina pesos. Still sucks, I know.

    Saw my first crime

I spent three months here last year, and while I heard of lots of crime, I never witnessed any first hand. Today I was walking close to the Plaza Italia subte station when I heard a pile of people screaming. At first I thought someone had been hit by a car, but then I saw some guy running and...

    No SIMs are Movistar

That's a good point, and I had to do it this time as well. I'm so used to doing it in various countries that I can do it pretty quickly. I usually just overlap my current microSIM on top of the new one, making sure to line up where the contacts are, then simply use a pair of small scissors and...

    Spanish lessons in Palermo Soho

Can anyone recommend a private spanish teacher that is in/near the Palermo Soho area? Thanks!

    No SIMs are Movistar

I didn't know that was an option. Are they from Movistar, or someone else?

    No SIMs are Movistar

I just went down to Movistar to get a SIM for my iPhone 4, and they told me that not only do they not have any microSIMs, but they also don't have any normal SIMs for a few days. Are there any pay as you go type plans with data at any of the other providers? I'm anxious to get my phone working...

Been to Iguazu recently? ... need some info

I didn't find that. It's no Buenos Aires, but there were a few pubs and restaurants I went to that weren't bad at all.

Been to Iguazu recently? ... need some info

If you don't really care that you're with a pile of people, there's also a mini bus service that leaves from the airport. As soon as you exit the baggage area it was right there on your left. I think I paid like 25 pesos or something, and there were maybe 8 or 10 people in a mini bus.
