U.S. launches financial rescue of Argentina, Treasury buys pesos

Money pissed down a rathole. At the end of the day, US taxpayers will be screwed again; which they are accustomed to and which they deserve via those whom they elect. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/09/us/politics/argentina-bailout-investors.html While the official gross USA national debt is...

    Citizenship requirements

My case remains visible through the Ministerio de Justicia website which, I presume, indicates that it has not been transferred to Migraciónes. I am no fan of Migraciónes, and so this is fine with me.

Now I understand the process. Pretty clever.

Cost of living in Argentina for foreigners improving?

Well said. Exactly. I have no sympathy for people who are corrupt. I live in one of the so-called 'best' neighborhoods but after shaking hands with someone here, I check my fingers to see if a ring is missing. Just farsantes and estéticas. No thanks.

Cost of living in Argentina for foreigners improving?

Recently I paid 32,000 for a cheeseburger and diet Coke at Kansas by Hipódromo. And, the place was packed with a line to be seated. I'd still rather be here than in the United States.

    Electric Bill unexpectedly high

"So 1kW energy will give you between 2-4kW of actual heat." That would violate the First Law of Thermodynamics, the Conservation of Energy.

October Social Security Benefit Not Recieved

For what it's worth, I dialed SSA yesterday and was told that the estimated wait was 120 minutes. They likely paid some consultant friend of a politician millions of dollars to conclude that saying 120 minutes was more palatable to the citizen sheep than saying two hours.

    Help with tech issues?

Hank, Google Gemini is an amazing tool. I would not ask it for dating advice but it has provided solutions that I did not expect like determining transport operators along Wilson lines. It has saved me countless hours rummaging around the internet. While I use Grok for public data research +...

    Help with tech issues?

For tech / science questions I use Google Gemini and save hours of time. As long as the query is formulated concisely, Gemini has provided excellent results and suggestions. Good luck.

Landed in BA 3 days ago. I'm lost

You are correct Mary. Buenos Aires is awful in many ways with a large percentage of porteños of all socio-economic strata being, um, ethically challenged. However, Buenos Aires is a convenient location while waiting for citizenship and while dealing with the interminable mindlessness of...

    Passport photos - update

If you just need digital images and can pay electronically, these guys will do it over the internet if you specify the physical / digital dimensions and the background color; I think that they charged about $5 [email protected]

October Social Security Benefit Not Recieved

For anything to do with the US federal government, I plan on calling at least three times. Once to initiate the action and at least twice to assure that it was done correctly. The time wasted is the opportunity cost of being here.

    Are we depressed, yet?

It's a nice day; with nice weather and my Schadenfreude index well into positive territory thanks to this thread. Gym workout, coffee in the park and then a leisure read of this peer-reviewed article to make the day even more enjoyable...

The Argie knife in the back didn't take long

We help out the Argies and the Argies help out the CCP. So President Trump, how are you and your BFF Javier Milei getting along these days? Your great negotiating skills meet Argie treachery. Ouch. https://www.axios.com/2025/09/24/trump-milei-us-argentina https://archive.is/KxJ8q

US ready to help with Argentina's fiscal turmoil

I'd like to know what President Trump and Treasury Secretary Bessant requested of the beggars (Argentina) in return for a financial lifeline. Neither Trump nor Bessant are known for doing something for nothing. Trump is a multi-billionaire and Forbes estimates Bessant's net worth as being close...

Argentina blew $1 billion in two days to fend off devaluation

Even Zero Hedge is losing faith in Milei's efforts to resuscitate an Argentine economy headed down the path to becoming South America's version of the Congo. https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/milei-admits-market-panic-mode-argentine-capital-exodus-accelerates

If you share an apartment building with Airbnb Rentals...

Hi Paige, we had the same problem with Airbnb tenants in our building. The situation culminated on Sept. 6th at 0130 after an obese Brazilian AirBnB tenant, covered with $10 tattoos was so drunk that he fell asleep in the shower with the water running. His foot blocked the drain causing the...

Peso posts sharpest weekly fall since Milei took office

Waldo, the comment was nonsensical. Argentina is awash with pesos and has been for many years as successive governments have tried to print their way out the deficit hole. It didn't work for Zimbabwe, Greece, Hungary, Yugoslavia or the Weimar Republic and it won't work here. History may not...
